Grass is always greener for California

What is Zach Galifianakis doing that’s NOT making the news these days. Seriously. First he was reportedly the driving force behind Mel Gibson’s removal from Hangover 2, then Due Date co-star Robert Downey Jr. got pissy about Galifianakis actions which of course led Zach laying low over the weekend while he smoked a joint on Bill Maher’s HBO show.
Wait, sorry, smoked a what!?
That’s right. When Maher and his panel of debaters started discussing the highly controversial Prop 19 in California, Galifianakis made his point joint short and sweet. After a quick statement about it still being taboo for some, Zach lit it up on LIVE TV!
Oh yeah, and just to make sure he was smoking the real thing, Galifianakis passed it over to conservative Republican Margaret Hoover. She declined to take a hit but confirmed it was the real thing with a subtle nod and smile.
If you’re not into politics (or live in California) you may be unaware that the state is trying to pass a measure that would legalize marijuana up to an ounce in possession (assuming you’re 21 or older) as well as allow people to grow legally within a 25 square foot area. Galifianakis has not been the only celebrity to toke on the matter, as Snoop Dogg (big surprise) told TMZ last week that he had already submitted his vote.
If passed, local governments could then decide to sanction commercial production and tax its sale — using the funds for things like libraries, parks or schools. But if approved, the measure also would put California head to head with the federal government, where marijuana still remains illegal.
What do you think of Proposition 19 in California? Do you think pot should be legalized on a federal level? If eligible, do you plan to vote in tomorrow’s elections?
