EXCLUSIVE: ‘Ramona & Beezus’ star Joey King chats with TeenSpot!
Joey King’s major breakthrough arrived in 2010 with the leading role in Ramona & Beezus alongside teen star Selena Gomez. Her absolutely adorable portrayal of “Ramona” in the film adaptation of the book series by Beverly Clearly quickly caught the attention of industry heavyweights like Christopher Nolan and Sam Raimi. In fact, both of which have casted King in upcoming Hollywood blockbusters!
TeenSpot.com recently caught up Joey to discuss many of her future projects as well as what it’s like growing up in showbiz. Check it out…
Joey, what inspired you to get into acting at such a young age?
“I love acting, I’ve liked it ever since I was 3 ½ years old. I took a theater program when I was younger. (Then) I really started getting into acting — I was in commercial, guest starring in TV shows, I did my first small film called Grace. Also, my sisters were acting and I wanted to be like them.”
What role has your family played in your career?
“My family has been so supportive of me along the way. Without my mom I wouldn’t be able to go anywhere. She helps me travel and is always with me – she makes things easier. My sisters support me too. Without my dad I wouldn’t have food on my plate or go anywhere else as well. He works a steady job. I’m so proud of my family.”
Joey, how do you balance acting with school?
“I am home schooled, it’s an online program. It’s been really great — I do school on set, I do school at home. It’s not too hard to keep up with my studies. I’m having a good time in school, I like seventh grade.”
“Math is kind of hard. I’m studying geometry right now and I do not really like it that much (laughs). My favorite subjects are reading and writing. I enjoy reading a lot. I could read a book every week, I would, but I’m a very so reader.”
What are some of your favorite books?
“I love the book ‘The Secret Garden’. I love ‘Walk Two Moons’. And my favorite, I haven’t read the third one but ‘The Uglies’ trilogy by Scott Westerfield. He writes amazing books. ‘Uglies’ and ‘Pretties’ were awesome!”
Check back over the weekend for part II of our interview with Joey King, including her comments on working with Christopher Nolan on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and Selena Gomez on ‘Ramona & Beezus’!
