Do you wish you could change your name?

A fifteen-year-old girl in Iceland named Blaer Bjarkardottir wants to keep hers. For people in Iceland, first names are used more prominently than last names (in phonebooks, classroom attendance, etc.), and all first names must come from an approved government registry. If a name isn’t on the list, a parent may petition to have the name added. In Icelandic, Blaer means “light breeze” but Blaer’s mother’s petition was denied because it was too masculine for a girl. WTH? Because of this, Blaer is officially known as “girl.” Her mother says that Blaer loves her name, adding, “So many strange names have been allowed, which makes this even more frustrating because Blaer is a perfectly Icelandic name. It seems like a basic human right to be able to name your child what you want, especially if it doesn’t harm your child in any way.”
Do you like your name? If you could change it, what would you name yourself?
