If anything, the opposite — which candidate they support (and more importantly, WHY) influences me on how much I like that celebrity.

Actually yes they do influence, many people look up to them like a religious ppl look up to their priest. Like lady gaga supports obama for his approvel for gay rights, a lot of her fans will be influenced by her decision just bcuz they believe in what she thinks it best.
