Britney Spears “Criminal” accused of glorifying violence

Britney Spears new music video for “Criminal” is spearheading all types of controversy.¬†U.K. politicians bashed the pop diva last week for sporting a pistol as she flees a London-area building in the video. The politicians say the video glamorizes violence in wake of the terrible riots that occurred in London last month.

While some insist that Spears apologizes, the pop star appears to have no indication of doing so. In a statement released on Monday, Spears said:

The video is a fantasy story featuring Britney’s boyfriend, Jason Trawick, which literally plays out the lyrics of a song written three years before the riots ever happened.

Diane Abbott, a member of Parliament shot back, “It is only a music video, but it’s images like this, with pop stars glamorizing gangs, which means that some young people … get drawn in.”

Do you think Britney Spears touting a gun glamorizes violence? Should she apologize?
