Are we trying too hard not to offend?
A New York City principal decided that Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” could potentially offend other cultures, and she deemed it inappropriate to be played at a kindergarten’s graduation ceremony. Instead, the patriotic song was replaced Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Now it seems that neither song will be played at the ceremony, and New York’s Mayor Blooomberg is standing behind the principal’s decision.
Which is more appropriate for a kindergarten graduation–Lee Greenwood or Justin Bieber? Are people trying too hard not to be offensive?

We arent offended when we live in other countries and they play their song, so why should they be offended? You come to America for opportunity and freedom, but we have that freedom because of patriotism. I don’t care what race or religion you are, its YOUR choice where you live so what right do you have to be offended by THAT countries culture. Justin Bieber isn’t American, so why the hell should his song be played at an AMERICAN graduation. Screw people being offended! This is America and we should be proud of our country and the songs that represent our struggle to become such a great nation. I mean would any country in the middle east or south america care if an American got offended by their country’s song? HELL NO! So why should we? If they get offended, then they can leave the country. Don’t come here for opportunity, then expect us to not be proud of the fact that we have it and that it was worth the fight.

Well i agree with ur analysis of sawyer lol(even though kinda hypocritical since u think we do need to stop being offensive, yet ur calling one guy “retarded”..and another guy having a 70 iq without even knowing him). Ever read the bible? theres not that many supernatural events. Everything else is almost a perfect description of the Hebrew people. Do some ******* research. Both on the bible and the original meaning of Seperation of Church and state. Trust me, ive done mine. Primary sources and quotes from the original founders of the Amendment. Read them. Thomas Jefferson(A diest…idk if u know what that means so ill explain..its basically the agnostics of the day) was the first to propose it. He said that Faith and God should be kept in gov’t (btw not christianity…god and faith) but that the government should not set up a national church because it doesnt allow for freedome of religion. Others agreed so it was put in. People have interpreted it differently in recent years. So again, do ur ******* research like i have. Also my athiest friend (actually friends because ive had many tell me the same) has a 33 ACT on his first try and believes in Evolution. But he has also done his research(which is all he does all the time because he loves science so thats literally all he talks about) and knows that there is not enough proof to be a required course standard. And it also contradicts many religions without hard proof, talk about offensive right? just saying. I actually believe in evolution on a small scale. I mean of course natural selection happens. Survival of the fittest. But to the point where mutations cause new species when breeding and such..no. And there isnt enough proof as i said. Trust me, ive done hours of research. unlike you who assume just listens to people who say they do research and put down religions.

Born in the USA wasn’t really a 100% patriotic song anyway. theres debate on its true meaning. just read the actual lyrics.

your “smart atheist friend” thinks evolution should be optional? lmfao your friend is apparently retarded.
the bible is NOT a historically accurate text,
and you are incorrect about your interpretation of the 1st amendment.
also, I’m pretty sure Sawyer’s IQ is below 70. or he’s just a bigoted racist. probably both

Btw, im a libertartian…I know what the admendment says..Do u know what it originally meant. Go do some research. The meaning has changed in the last 60 years. The whole point was to try to keep the government from having a national church, kinda like when they had a national bank. Now the meaning has changed. Its not all bad, but since when has writing a bible verse on a board been offensive? The bible is a very very accurate historical reference of the hebrew people if anything. I wouldnt care if they wrote a quote from a muslim document honestly. It just wouldnt bother me. Same with any other religion. Now if someone in a public system tried to force me to become muslim i would have a problem. But the mentioning or even the practicing of a religion is not offensive to me what so ever. Again God is a term used in almost EVERY religion. That song is about faith not about christianity. Athiests are the only ones that would have any sort of reason to be offended, which wouldnt make any sense either.(i consider myself an apathetic agnogstic christian) As sometimes a borderline athiest i see no reason to be offended by that at all. I would just look at it as people expressing their faith, not their religion. And my athiests friends would say the same, and i have ALOT. One i know, probably the smartest guy i know(me and him usually go 1-2 in grades) doesnt even think evolution should be required to be taught and learned. He thinks there should be a theology class thats optional as an elective.

joness1234 ought to go read the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution. I quote “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”
coolcalx on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 5:55 pm
black and white reasoning fallacy. God Bless The USA isn’t the only patriotic song they could have played. a pop song makes no sense to replace it.
the correct song should have been pomp and circumstance anyway.
