They get a lot of bad press, Blink 182 'wannabes', pop idiots, and well...who cares. Musically, in my opinion they are a lot more mature than Blink (and after Blink 182's last album, I dont even think they are worthmentioning (*spits*) I recently read a message from the webmasterof newfoundglory.co.uk, stating that NFG were only classed as punk because they sound like it. Their actual songs are normally about girls, not political issues and societies problems. I would have to agree with him, and say that a new genre needs to be invented tocover band such as New Found Glory, Blink 182, Sum 41 who don'tfit into any particular genre other than pop. So to all of those people thinking of slating them, take a minute to think about it. Anyway, the show. Tonight I was going to a new venue. The London Shepherds Bush Empire. After worming my way into the main stage area, I can see that this is going to be an interesting show. The stage is small, and the roof is high. There seemed to be more people seated on the balcony than were standing on the dance floor. I suppose *real* theatres aren't really made for bands to play live in. ![]() Photo: Gary Lancaster, TeenSpot.com © 2009 TeenSpot.com The Fight, dare I say it, weren't that great. A good effort from them though, trying to impress the crowd, who were exceptionally reactive to the support act. A crowd with reactions - Something I haven't seen in awhile. They leave with their ego's dashed slightly as the mean people seated on the balcony boo them off after their set... have some respect! Something Corporate, I cant really comment on. I wasn't paying attention to them due to having camera issues. I did however catch the last song, which was great. They are completely synchronised, and the piano work is something, which is noticeable in a good way. Piano in a punk band? Who would have thought! Now to the main act. I've seen NFG three times before hand, once at the London Astoria, once at the London Forum, once at Reading Festival (A big Uk all music genre festival) and obviously tonight was to be my fourth show. Each time I had seen them, they had improved in some way. Even if its just a little thing, it shows. Tonight was no exception. They played a brilliant set, even better than I thought it would be. ![]() Photo: Gary Lancaster, TeenSpot.com © 2009 TeenSpot.com A great set follows, playing a couple of songs from their covers album which is quite out of the ordinary. Never Ending Story had to be my favourite cover song of the night, and it certainly invoked a reaction with the crowd! Also tonight, was the first time I'd properly heard them play their single 'My Friends Over You', and that went down a storm. This song really shows how the band is able to work together to produce a great piece of music. It's catchy, but simple, in a complicated way. Jordan also proving in this that even though their issues aren't about society, they are punk in a moral kind of way. Moral Punk? Hm. It was great to see the crowd appreciating the band. They deserve respect even if you don't like them, they play live well and contrary to popular belief, have not sold out in my opinion. They sing songs about friends, girls, and general life issues. They always have done, and as they have shown in their latest album, do not seem to want to change. Selling out surely involves changing your music direction. Be it for the good, or the bad, All I can say is that I hope NFG carry on doing what they started, and don't change. As normal, the band tonight looked, and acted happy to be there. Something which really does effect the way the band plays, and the way the crowd react. Their attitude to their loyal devoted fans is one of the best I've seen, and I've met quite a few groups. They actually WANT to be there, and enjoy what they are doing. Good luck to them. This also helped me make up my mind on the issue that this really was a great show. Once again, I was impressed by a band that I'd already been impressed by. How odd. The set played could really only be described as electric. The band are currently on great form, and are working hard on touring with their latest album, Sticks and Stones. It's certainly worth checking out, and not to be missed if you are a fan! What are you waiting for... Long live New Found Glory! It's not punk, but I like it!
