With a new three disc album heading our way sometime in early 2006, The Early November have taken it upon themselves to try out a little of that new material on tour, and as expected, I just had to go and check it out... it would almost be blasphemous of me not too.
Openers tonight, were Anberlin. Fresh faced, and reminiscent of Fall Out Boy, I was shocked that I'd never heard of them. A brilliantly vibrant act that actually had quite a fan base. The crowd were excited to see them, but no one in the venue, probably the city was as excited to be there as the lead singer, who sported an ear-to-ear grin for essentially their entire half an hour set. A great way to set the "scene" (... see what I did there?) and a top notch performance.
However, as per usual, in a thoroughly predictable but downright addictive way, The Early November were to go on and steal the show. It's a true to life fact which I'm sure many will agree with here - it's always something special seeing The Early November (*TEN) play, and tonight, of course, was no exception. Adored by the audience, every word was sung louder than the last by the transfixed crowd who took no hesitation in taking to the new material like a hypothetical duck to water.
TEN are a tight act on stage, and one worth seeing if you've not yet. To some, it's a confusing issue. They don't get the attraction, but the live performance really fuses the boisterous stage presence to the well organised and almost boring structure of a thoroughly intense back catalogue of material. For me, this band represents progression. You can hear it through their records, and their live performance covers such a spectrum of expressed emotion, that you almost feel privileged to witness it.
I love The Early November. Isn't about time you did too?
