Female fronted punk is not as uncommon as you'd think these days... but let's not beat around the bush. We're not talking punk Avril Lavigne, or dare I say it Kelly Clarkson... and we're certainly not talking Kittie here. What's a good comparison?
Deadline? Deadline, for example, and specifically for those in the know has a matured punk rock sound which is only accentuated by the addition of a female lead.
McQueen, on the other hand take this one step further and actually have a full roster of females, in the form of Leah Duors on vocals, Hayley Cramer on drums, Cat De Casanove on guitars and Sophie Taylor on bass.
A nitty gritty blend of hard rock and punk rock roots make this sound not only as good as some of their male contemporaries, but probably even better. Leah's voice creates a rusty, filthy almost Courtney Love-esque feeling which sits perfectly with the catchy baselines sandwiched between simple yet affective hooks.
Not your average run of the mill female punk band, and brings back memories of early Hole recordings. It's grunge infused, and it's down right sexy. This is the impression I’ve got from their first single, "Running out of things to say", so bring on the album, if it's anything like this it's going to be exciting.
