 The Runaways, The Go-Gos and the Bangles.. Those cutting edge all–girl groups had a profound influence on what made a rock band and who could play in one. KSM may not be the first all-girl rock band– but they are a force that will definitely fit in the same conversation as many of the iconic female bands before them. They are young but talented beyond their years with no pretense -- and they rock. TeenSpot: First and foremost, thanks for taking time out of your day to sit down and talk with us here at TeenSpot.com! TeenSpot: So let's first find out who exactly you are and a little bit about yourselves! What are your names, how old are you and what do you play? KSM: Shae- 18/ lead guitar Kate- 18/ drums Sophia- 18/bass & background vocals Shelby- 16/ lead vocals Katie- 15/ rhythm guitar & background vocals TeenSpot: Where are you all from originally? KSM: Everyone lives in Southern California and is from there except for Katie, who grew up in North Carolina but moved to LA 3 years ago. TeenSpot: Where did the name KSM come from? KSM: All of our names start with a K or an S and Music is the one thing that brought us all together, hence the M. TeenSpot: Did you know each other before forming the group KSM? KSM: We did not know each other but have grown to be such close friends. TeenSpot: So currently you are on tour with Demi Lovato, how is the tour going so far? Are there any memorable experiences that stick out so far? KSM: The tour is awesome and we are having such a great time! One of our most memorable experiences so far was going shopping at Urban Outfitters with David Archuleta. TeenSpot: Now before heading out on tour with Demi Lovato I hear that you guys did a cover of "I want you to want me." I checked out the song and thought you did an amazing job on it! You all look like you're having so much fun in the video! TeenSpot: Was making the video as much fun as it looked? Was the experience how you thought it would be or better? KSM: Making the video was the coolest experience. We had so much fun with the cast when they all took turns taking Shelby’s place as lead vocals. We thought it would be fun but it was better than we anticipated. TeenSpot: Alright, so with putting out music videos, being on tour and doing interviews of course! How do you all still find time for family and school? KSM: We're actually all done with school, but before it was kind of difficult because we would have to do independent study programs while on tour. Our families are definitely prioritized and they are all supportive. They like to be involved in what we're doing and we involve them as much as possible. TeenSpot: How about letting us into the group of KSM for just a minute! Are there any inside jokes or anything that you all do as a group? KSM: Before every show we come together and do our special pre-show ritual. We make the "rock 'n roll" symbol with our right hand, stand in a circle and put our hands in the middle. It creates a star. Then we all yell out the inside joke of the day. It's something that keeps us laughing and ready to go for a show. TeenSpot: So I hear a rumor that your full album will be dropping later this year! We're all looking forward to it! Are you all still writing/recording it? KSM: Actually, the album is all finished! We are so excited about it coming out and we hope everyone else loves it as much as we do. TeenSpot: How would you interpret the album? What emotions are you trying to trigger with it? KSM: We always like to say that this album is a pop rock extravaganza! It really triggers the emotions that most teenagers and young adults feel as they grow up. We really want this to be an album that people of all ages can relate to and that they can have fun listening to. TeenSpot: Tell us a little bit about the School Tour that you all went on. Did the students know you were going to be there, or were the shows mostly surprises? It looks like the students all had a blast! KSM: The students were aware that we were coming, however not all of them were familiar with our music. For many, it was a first time experience, but the reaction was great and we had a great time being there. We’ve actually had a lot of people come out to some of our other shows since then and tell us about how we came to their school! TeenSpot: And the last question and of course the most important question! What would you like to say to all of your fans around the world? KSM: Thank you!!! We really could not do this without you and we are so appreciative of all of your support. KSM fans are the best!
