From birth to appointment as the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and all things in between. Star Trek follows James T. Kirk, and all the rest of your favorite oldschool starfleet crew through the biggest adventure of their young lives (so far, of course). One of the most anticipated films of the summer, Trekkies have been waiting for this film for years.
This is an all around solid movie. Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike can watch and enjoy this movie. Now, I'm not saying it's perfect, but I know of several more Trekkies who love it than I do who hate it. Star Trek is action packed, from front to back, exactly the way a sci-fi flick should be. It's funny, it's quick, it's exciting, and it's engulfing. The special effects are the best part of this movie, to me. Not that they are the best special effects I've ever seen or anything, but they found a way to use today's high-tech, stellar graphics but still leave us with a vintage cheese feel. Absolutely essential to making a Star Trek film. They did a fantastic job with the graphics. The acting also held on to the Star Trek cheese to exactly the right degree to make it modern, but still cheesy. And, let's be honest, how can you not love lines like "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?!"? Priceless. Of course, the true highlight of this movie is the appearance of Leonard Nemoy, but that goes without saying.
Star Trek is a fun, action blockbuster that I recommend to anyone in the mood for just that; mindless, fun entertainment. And this is only the beginning of a long train of hot summer hits coming to theatres this year! It's going to be a great summer for movie lovers!
