![]() These boys may not look sing or dance much like the Jackson Five, but the two acts do have something in common. Back in the day, where the Jacksons went, so did the mass hysteria and screaming girls. Pretty Ricky it would appear, are lucky boys. Indeed, Craig Kallman, Atlantic Records chairman and CEO went to catch this phenomena and was nearly trampled by thousands of concertgoers at a Pretty Ricky show. Needless to say, they were offered a deal pretty soon after. Round one of the Pretty Ricky saga begins then with ‘Blue Stars’ the boys debut album. Fans it would appear, could not get enough of the boys. Brothers Pleasure, Slick ‘Em, Diamond Blue Smith and Spectacular Blue Smith became unable to even go to the local theatre without causing pandemonium. Blue Stars, one of the best-selling albums of 2005 (In the USA) spawned three hit singles… ‘Grind With Me’, ‘Your Body’ and ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number’ – selling nearly a million copies! So now we reach round two. An album, the guys claim, with no filler. All singles. A CD, they claim which is just for the fans. This is of course after landing nominations for a Billboard Award, A World Music Award and an American Music Award to boot. Blue Stars boasted big hits, but their new album Late Night Special seems destined to surpass their previous success. The growth and maturity of their lyrics, production, and vocals coupled with the group’s innate ability to connect with fans of all ages, shows the diversity and expansion of Pleasure, Slick ‘Em, Baby blue and Spectacular as major recording artists. Expect Pretty Ricky to be making waves near you; sooner, rather than later. ![]()
