Ah My Chemical Romance. Is there anyone on this planet that hasn’t heard of them these days? Their rise to fame has been commendable, to say the least. Especially considering they are hardly pioneers of a genre. One may in fact go as far to declare them the new Good Charlotte, but we won’t be petty.
The venue for tonight’s show is Brixton Academy in London. A five and a half thousand people epicentre for all things rock and or roll… and tonight, it’s My Chemical Romance’s turn to step up onto the stage and show London what they are all about once and for all.
Playing essentially everything from The Black Parade the band launched a musical assault on the audience who, including me couldn’t have been more surprised by the show laid out in front of us. ‘The End’ was a call to arms to the bands young fan base who tonight were out in considerable force whilst ‘This Is How I Disappear’ sent the audience into a grunge crazed fury.
Album title track ‘The Black Parade’ created what can only be termed as an explosion from the volatile audience who’s black make up was undoubtedly running almost as fast as they were in the hot sweaty circle pit which appeared to adorn the entire centre crowd.
The bands first big hit in the UK ‘Helena’ blew away even me, who I will openly admit, was previously a harsh critic of My Chemical Romance and their make up goth pop ways.
Undoubtedly one of the best shows I’ve managed to catch this year, My Chemical Romance in the space of an hour (no really… an hour, what’s that about?) converted myself and without a doubt many other critics to fans. They proved to us why exactly they are on the top of their game right now and it actually made me want to go and see them again. That, is a profound effect to say the least, so until next time, MCR, I salute you.
