Rarely does Fame Academy spawn anything that interests me. To be honest, the thought of seeing an artist who featured on it sends shivers down my spine. However, there are a few exceptions. Marli Buck seemingly is one of these few and far between exceptions.
Her character brand of soft, piano led pop will undoubtedly warm even the stoniest of hearts and it's only with a live performance that her all round beauty, both physical and musically can be appreciated.
I mean ok, supporting 'Journey South' may not be something to be particularly proud of, but having three and a half thousand people at the Hammersmith Apollo crooning and squeezing the hands of their loved ones is. Her upsettingly short set contained a mixture of songs from her gracefully crafted EP 'Be The One' and the opening track (also called) 'Be The One' was undoubtedly the highlight of her short and sweet set.
Sumptuous and honed to perfection, 'White Light' drifts delicately to an unsuspecting crowd and a beautifully heart felt rendition of 'If Love Makes Sense' lyrically moves Marli a league of her own.
Toe-tapping 'Farewell my friend' nearly brought a tear to ones eye; however being the big manly type no such thoughts were felt. Seriously.
With a voice like this, Marli Buck should be forced into the CD players of the entire worlds populus, it's as simple as that. Tugging at the heart strings with a sincere optimism, and packed with lashings of emotion and buckets of charm, her songs are timeless and that as they say, is that.
