Despite being the key lyricist and occasional vocalist for the ‘polit-indie’ powerhouse the Manic Street Preachers, some artists creative flame never goes out. Seemingly, Nicky Wire is one of the aforementioned, and his pending new album is evidence enough that even being a major rock and roll star isn’t quite enough for some to cure that creative itch.

Time stolen between Manics albums, Wire decided to haul himself off to a local studio and try out some of his own material. Six months later there were 20 songs; narrowed down to 13 for the album… ’I Killed The Zeitgeist’.

’Break My Heart Slowly is the debut single to be taken from the album and finds Wire slinking back into his grungesque, early Manics roots. Although ultimately holding underlying political or social worries, Manics songs are not a world a way from this solo attempt of Wires, and despite not ticking all the boxes for a usual Manics hit, the moment Wire’s heartfelt lyricism hits, you know you’ve heard it a thousand times before, and it really, never gets old.

If the rest of the album follows suit to this, then Manic Street Preachers fans are in for a treat, I look forward to it greatly.
