| About Me |
Let's see...I could describe myself very positively or very negatively. I think I will just go for the unbiased truth and you can make of it what you wish.
As is stated in The Breakfast Club, "everyone is a little bizarre, some are just better at hiding it than others." Well, I'm not good at hiding it. So, what makes me so bizarre? Many things. My small quirks. My personality. My nerdiness. I am a major nerd, and I love, love, love history. My favorite game is Trivial Pursuit, so that should tell you something right there. Seriously I read history textbooks for fun over vacation. I am a major, major perfectionist. I don't accept much less than perfection from myself. However, this does not carry over to my view of others- I am very tolerant and really don't have that high standards for anyone but me. I am smart, and have an amazing memory for historical facts- like really when I read something in a history textbook I memorize it like a xerox machine. Overall, as you can see from this, my life revolves around school. I do have a life- ok not so much as my friends tell me, but I do have friends, and I am truly a nice person. What else? I am German but live in America. And no I do not have dual or American citizenship. I never plan to get either one. I'm Catholic. I go to a Catholic all-girls school. I suppose you could say I live in a bubble. I could describe myself as a rebel, but I'm not. The closest I've gotten to breaking a rule was speedwalking in 8th grade (not against the rules but I did get detention because my Civics teacher was insane). I rarely drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. I've never gone on a date in my life. I'm the most naive person you could find. Ok, those last two sentences used to be true. Europe has changed me. However, I'm very liberal in terms of politics. Hmmm, what else. I am a major tennis fan. Playing, watching, anything. I also have a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do. I also really love books. I love Russian literature. Perhaps a bit too much. Russian literature is wonderful. Lately I've been educating myself on existentialism, and I find I quite like the philosophy. Oh, I'm about the biggest cynic on the planet. Don't talk to me about my views on human nature, they are rather depressing. But yet, I feel that we are redeemed by society. I suppose I'm the anti-Rousseau. I'm not a nihilist by any stretch, I'm not that much of a pessimist. And despite my cynicism, I like individuals. I'm odd- I see the worst in human nature and the best in people. I suppose I wish to be an idealist, despite my knowledge that I can never be. And on some level, I find being a cynic to be more enlightened, and yes, slightly pretentious. Which should be bad, but I don't find it to be so. If you honestly want to know about my philosophies (and no, I can't give you a good answer about faith, since I'm not yet sure how I feel about that), go ahead and ask. I also love literature, and will talk about it to anyone. Now then...that's about it. If you read all that, kudos. I suppose, despite my earlier statements, I am, in fact, quite average. And no, I don't actually believe that.
If you want to know anything else, just ask. |

I like essentially anything. I tend to like songs more than specific bands or musicians. I have a vast variety of songs on my ipod, from Greenday to Britney, from opera to Blue Oyster Cult, from The Beatles to Jimmy Eat World, from Shakira to HIM, from Joshua Bell to Nada Surf, etc. I like pop, rock, classical, alternative, dance, pretty much anything except rap and country. Though I do have even songs of those genres on my playlist. Truly, I have no preference. However, for the sake of propriety, I will enter some of my favorite bands/artists:
MIKA, Hellogoodbye, Postal Service, Rooney, Boys Like Girls, Beatles, Feeling, Sam Phillips, All-American Rejects, Relient K, etc.
I am currently almost overly obsessed with Mika. |
| Television: |
Gilmore Girls, Project Runway (yay Christian!), Top Chef, Ugly Betty. |
| Movies: |
Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version of course), Gone with the Wind, The Breakfast Club, My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, Sixteen Candles, Love Actually, Chasing Liberty, The Lives of Others, the Edukators, Goodbye Lenin, Merry Christmas, Clueless, Legally Blonde, The Emperor's Club, You've Got Mail, Lord of the Rings, Thirteen Days, and a lot of others. |
| People: |
I like people. I'm not a sociopath...
My favorite people?
Prince Andrey, Dostoevsky, Robespierre, Voltaire, Nietzsche, Raskolnikov, Alyosha, Ivan, Henry Winter, Jay Gatsby, Heathcliff, Catullus- oh, wait, they are all dead or fictional. Ok, never mind. Fine, I'll be serious for a moment...
In terms of celebrities, I only have favorite athletes: ROGER FEDERER!!!!, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Sven Hannawald, Kaka, Janne Ahonen, Miroslav Klose, Stephane Lambiel, the German soccer team, the German ski jumping team, German athletes in general...
Then I have my other, more eccentric faves: Joshua Bell (violin), Rolando Villazon (opera singer). Oh and Mika, who I'm currently obsessed with....
In terms of actors, I'm experiencing a newfound obsession for Daniel Day-Lewis at the moment. I've gone on a mad spree to rent like every movie the guy's done. I'm thinking this is going to be a love to last, and I couldn't be happier that I love a true genius. :)
Other than that, I really like Daniel Bruehl. Oh,and recently, after seeing Thirteen Days again, I've taken an immense liking to Bruce Greenwood. I don't really have a favorite actress, but I like Reese Witherspoon a lot, so I suppose if I had to name a favorite it would be her. Oh, and having just seen Prince Caspian twice, I am harboring a bit of an obsession with Ben Barnes.
But people in general? I love my friends and family, my teachers, pretty much everyone I know, everyone who has influenced my life, good or bad, as I believe that all experiences shape us. And since I love myself (I'm a bit of a self-absorbed narcissist to be completely honest), I love these people. I suppose I love humanity, even if I think the worst of it. |
| Books: |
Here is a partial list:
Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Notes from the Underground, Gone With the Wind, The Secret History, Lord of the Flies, The Bell Jar, The Harry Potter series, Paris in the Terror, The Anne of Green Gables series, Exodus, Candide, The Great Gatsby, This Side of Paradise, The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress, Asterix (yes, the greatest comic books known to man which have taught me an indescribable amount of Roman history)
...many more
My current reading material: The Age of Innocence by Wharton
Just read: Lost Illusions, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Brothers Karamazov, The Stranger, War and Peace (I actually finished the most tedious book known to man- and yes I fell asleep once or twice- and also cried twice over Andrei- oh why, seriously, why Andrei?), One Hundred Years of Solitude, and The Secret History. Yeah, I like to read a lot. |
| Places: |
Rome, Paris, Munich, Vienna, Italy in general, St.John in the Virgin Islands. |
| Foods: |
Pretty much anything involving chocolate is good. I love Italian food, particularly spaghetti vongole. I also love Chinese food. Sushi is another favorite of mine. I do like my Bavarian food. French, of course. I like Indian food. I even get the occasional craving for hamburgers. I like many types of food. Of course, there are also many things I dislike. For instance, I don't eat shellfish. Or ham. Or turkey. Or eggplant. Or cucumber. Those are just some of the things I don't eat. There's no rhyme or reason to what I like and what I don't like. |
| Drinks: |
Cappuccino, frappuccino, tea, hot chocolate, Almdudler, aranciata, limonata, fanta, lemonade, orangina, milk, cranberry juice, Apfelschorle, and good old H2O. |
| Sports: |
TENNIS!!!, ski jumping, biathlon, soccer, most winter sports that involve snow, Tae Kwon Do, etc |
| Other: |
I'm awesome. That's all you need to know.
You can figure out for yourself whether I'm kidding or not. |

No, I have to pay 1 cent for every megabyte that I download. Ok, maybe $30 was an exaggeration, but you get me. |

Internet at uni costs too much. =( |

Nope. We get 8 live games on free-to-air here, the rest are on Setanta Sports. Which I have at home, but not here at uni. We got 7 group stage games and the final. *angry* |

Yeah, I should get free-to-air television so I can actually watch the second week of the Australian Open. Although I say that every year, but I never actually bug my mother to do anything about it.
I watched 60 games of the 2006 World Cup. Sleeping 7am to 4pm is awesome. =D |

Yeah, everyone's going to royally hate me during the Olympics. I may have to buy myself a television aerial for in my room. That way I'll only upset the 5 people around me in my dorm when I'm cheering my head off 12 hours a day. Between Australia and Natalie Coughlin, I'm sure I'll get my share of swimming to cheer about alone. =D |

Ouch. I love this time of year. Everything just flows into one another. French Open > Wimbledon > Le Tour. *drools* |

Hey Laura, would you like a slice of this delicious humble pie I'm serving up? Casey Dellacqua baked it, but Patty Schnyder couldn't finish it all. =P |

Pfft, like I am empathetic to you at all. :o
Lucky you - I'm still in school! I won;t get to go anywhere until August, which should be pretty good. How's Munich so far? Are you spending the whole two months there? |

I thought about it, but there's nothing I felt the need to say. You know what I think/feel. There were some people I feel close to that I added merely because I figured they'd feel blegh if I didn't, but I trusted you not to.
You will have an Internet connection down there, right?! |
