Feel free to add me! I accept everyone. Really, I do. Well, unless you are a total creep who seems like they will get banned immediately. I feel compelled to add that as I refused a friend request for the first time recently. I'm also very friendly and try to respond back to all comments, so don't hesitate to leave a message. :)

I'm back from my European adventure. It was fabulous!!!!!

Older:
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GERMANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OFF TO VIENNA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SHALL BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My current fave song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeF-qzxdl0w
And of course, the requisite (I have a bit of an obsession, ok?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXYXYvHPkGU

I'm SOOOOOO excited for summer. Europe for eight weeks and then Georgetown. What could be better?

India was absolutely marvelous. I LOVED it. In other news...

I'm heading off to Georgetown next year.

I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY HAPPY!!!!!!!!
So, not only was science bowl awesome, but Gregor won the world championships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think I can accurately express my happiness, but it is profound. It's 6 hours later and I'm still grinning.

So, as wrong as it is for me to be depressed about a German getting the third place in the Four Hills Tournament, I am. Well, I'd rather he have gotten it than someone else, but I wanted Gregor to get it. Stupid wind, slow ramp, and cursed luck. Gregor. :(
On the positive side, YAY Janne!!!! 5 time champion!!! :) :) :)
Janne is my second-favorite jumper, behind Gregor, so at least that's something to be very happy about. I think somehow I didn't actually want Gregor to win the tournament once it became apparent that Janne had a good chance too, as I really wanted Janne to make history with this new record, and Gregor being 17- still, he turns 18 tomorrow- he has many years to go- hopefully- to make history. All in all, it's been a day mixed with happiness and sadness, though I suppose the happiness is outweighing the sadness. Oh why couldn't stupid Morgenstern be the one horribly affected by the weather and his ski becoming undone and lose his place, Gregor come in second in the tournament, and Neumayer in third. Ah well, I suppose you can't have everything in life. :(
And on another positive, Hanni gets to keep his record for at least another year. I seriously broke down and cried this weekend when watching old victories of Hanni's on youtube. He was just so amazing, and the first athlete I ever loved, and he's still my favorite ski jumper of all time. Though Gregor has revitalized my interest in the sport. I mean, I love Janne and all, but Gregor is young and it's always good to support someone who has many years ahead of them. Janne shall retire soon, so I don't want to get overly attached, though I love the guy. Overall, I'm happy to have a fave ski jumper again, though of course I already supported Gregor last winter.
And thankfully, ZDF showed the jumping live online!!! So happy that I actually got to see it rather than just follow the scores, which is rather boring, I must admit. I sincerely hope that some other jumpings will be live online during the rest of the season. Well, maybe Gregor can win the WM or world cup, or at least have a great rest of the season. :)
Anyway, that's the end of my long discourse on ski jumping...

The break is over, and I have to head off to school soon. Very sad, this is. On the positive side, Gregor is winning the Four Hills Tournament!!!! And Janne is doing well too!!! YAY!!!!! Oh, and I got into Georgetown, so at least one weight is off my mind. :)

I'm sooooooo excited it's December. Such a happy time. I need to make a Christmas mix!

Now that I've revamped my profile, I want to add Christmas music. How do I do that?

On the happy front, I just saw 'Enchanted' and loved it. I also loved my vacation in the Virgin Islands. It did me a world of good. On the minus...

So, I set my mind to it and finished War and Peace over Thanksgiving break. And then I got home and was all set to join the Prince Andrei appreciation groups on facebook, read any fanfiction that pertained to it, or simply find any result on it on google that doesn't pertain to the films or purchasing the book. I was sadly dissappointed. I read all 1386 pages of it only to sob bitterly over Andrei's death, and then not even find any love for the guy. It's heartbreaking.

Yes, I do love literary characters way too much. I also read The Secret History and One Hundred Years of Solitude over break. And now I'm working on On the Road, which I think I'll continue once I actually finish this Bio lab from hell.

Also, my English teacher from 8th and 9th grade died over break, and the shock hasn't settled in yet. I mean, she had breast cancer, but I always thought she would recover. This fall, she helped me edit my college essays. The present I got her that I hadn't written the card for yet is still sitting downstairs. I still have roughly 40 messages from her in my e-mail files. And I remember seeing her just like two weeks ago. Honestly, it never seemed like she was dying. I still can't believe it. I'm heartbroken, but the shock hasn't settled in yet. When it does, I know I'll cry for days. I don't think I'll ever get over it.

More work, attempting to finish college apps. On the plus side, one more week until the Virgin Islands. Yay.

YAY! Germans won the World Cup! Woohoo!

Hmmm, so what is new with me? College apps. Fun stuff. :)

Tons of homework. Even funner. :)

Yeah, no...

I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roger won and I was there to witness it. :)

THE US OPEN IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And school is about to start. And I'm still nowhere near done on my work. Gah.

So, I'm back from gov school. Working on AP work and college stuff. Fun, I know. Anyway, hope everyone's having a good summer! Leave me a message! :)

So, I went out and got my summer reading today. We ahve 4 books required. I ended up buying 30 books. I plan to read as many of them as possible. Russian literature, French literature, Spanish literature, British literature, American literature, etc. Oh, and I have another like 10 books of German literature I should read at home too. I like to read classics over the summer. So this year that's books like Crime and Punishment, Germinal, Moby Dick, House of Mirth, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Flowers for Algernon, The Idiot, War and Peace, and many more. Yeah, I have a busy summer ahead. :)

YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MILAN WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm sooooooo excited right now, it's unbelievable. :)

I would be happier if Kaka had scored, preferably twice to tie that record, but hey, that's for next year. Hehe. Anyway, woohoo!!!!!!!!!

YES!!!! Federer finally defeated Nadal on clay!!!!!!

I put up prom pictures in PYP, so go check them out if you are so inclined. That's about it. Doing a physics packet, then sleep, then tomorrow I must work on my music paper, and Friday is my first final! I can't believe the year is almost over.

I'm trying to work on this space with my limited skills.

This is also my fun space to ask questions, hoping someone knows the answer. If you do, leave a comment! :)

 About Me
Let's see...I could describe myself very positively or very negatively. I think I will just go for the unbiased truth and you can make of it what you wish.

As is stated in The Breakfast Club, "everyone is a little bizarre, some are just better at hiding it than others." Well, I'm not good at hiding it. So, what makes me so bizarre? Many things. My small quirks. My personality. My nerdiness. I am a major nerd, and I love, love, love history. My favorite game is Trivial Pursuit, so that should tell you something right there. Seriously I read history textbooks for fun over vacation. I am a major, major perfectionist. I don't accept much less than perfection from myself. However, this does not carry over to my view of others- I am very tolerant and really don't have that high standards for anyone but me. I am smart, and have an amazing memory for historical facts- like really when I read something in a history textbook I memorize it like a xerox machine. Overall, as you can see from this, my life revolves around school. I do have a life- ok not so much as my friends tell me, but I do have friends, and I am truly a nice person. What else? I am German but live in America. And no I do not have dual or American citizenship. I never plan to get either one. I'm Catholic. I go to a Catholic all-girls school. I suppose you could say I live in a bubble. I could describe myself as a rebel, but I'm not. The closest I've gotten to breaking a rule was speedwalking in 8th grade (not against the rules but I did get detention because my Civics teacher was insane). I rarely drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. I've never gone on a date in my life. I'm the most naive person you could find. Ok, those last two sentences used to be true. Europe has changed me. However, I'm very liberal in terms of politics. Hmmm, what else. I am a major tennis fan. Playing, watching, anything. I also have a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do. I also really love books. I love Russian literature. Perhaps a bit too much. Russian literature is wonderful. Lately I've been educating myself on existentialism, and I find I quite like the philosophy. Oh, I'm about the biggest cynic on the planet. Don't talk to me about my views on human nature, they are rather depressing. But yet, I feel that we are redeemed by society. I suppose I'm the anti-Rousseau. I'm not a nihilist by any stretch, I'm not that much of a pessimist. And despite my cynicism, I like individuals. I'm odd- I see the worst in human nature and the best in people. I suppose I wish to be an idealist, despite my knowledge that I can never be. And on some level, I find being a cynic to be more enlightened, and yes, slightly pretentious. Which should be bad, but I don't find it to be so. If you honestly want to know about my philosophies (and no, I can't give you a good answer about faith, since I'm not yet sure how I feel about that), go ahead and ask. I also love literature, and will talk about it to anyone. Now then...that's about it. If you read all that, kudos. I suppose, despite my earlier statements, I am, in fact, quite average. And no, I don't actually believe that.

If you want to know anything else, just ask.
 Specifics
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Relationship: Single
Location: Germany
Birthday: April 12, 1990
 Interests
Music: I like essentially anything. I tend to like songs more than specific bands or musicians. I have a vast variety of songs on my ipod, from Greenday to Britney, from opera to Blue Oyster Cult, from The Beatles to Jimmy Eat World, from Shakira to HIM, from Joshua Bell to Nada Surf, etc. I like pop, rock, classical, alternative, dance, pretty much anything except rap and country. Though I do have even songs of those genres on my playlist. Truly, I have no preference. However, for the sake of propriety, I will enter some of my favorite bands/artists:

MIKA, Hellogoodbye, Postal Service, Rooney, Boys Like Girls, Beatles, Feeling, Sam Phillips, All-American Rejects, Relient K, etc.

I am currently almost overly obsessed with Mika.
Television: Gilmore Girls, Project Runway (yay Christian!), Top Chef, Ugly Betty.
Movies: Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version of course), Gone with the Wind, The Breakfast Club, My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, Sixteen Candles, Love Actually, Chasing Liberty, The Lives of Others, the Edukators, Goodbye Lenin, Merry Christmas, Clueless, Legally Blonde, The Emperor's Club, You've Got Mail, Lord of the Rings, Thirteen Days, and a lot of others.
People: I like people. I'm not a sociopath...
My favorite people?
Prince Andrey, Dostoevsky, Robespierre, Voltaire, Nietzsche, Raskolnikov, Alyosha, Ivan, Henry Winter, Jay Gatsby, Heathcliff, Catullus- oh, wait, they are all dead or fictional. Ok, never mind. Fine, I'll be serious for a moment...
In terms of celebrities, I only have favorite athletes: ROGER FEDERER!!!!, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Sven Hannawald, Kaka, Janne Ahonen, Miroslav Klose, Stephane Lambiel, the German soccer team, the German ski jumping team, German athletes in general...

Then I have my other, more eccentric faves: Joshua Bell (violin), Rolando Villazon (opera singer). Oh and Mika, who I'm currently obsessed with....

In terms of actors, I'm experiencing a newfound obsession for Daniel Day-Lewis at the moment. I've gone on a mad spree to rent like every movie the guy's done. I'm thinking this is going to be a love to last, and I couldn't be happier that I love a true genius. :)
Other than that, I really like Daniel Bruehl. Oh,and recently, after seeing Thirteen Days again, I've taken an immense liking to Bruce Greenwood. I don't really have a favorite actress, but I like Reese Witherspoon a lot, so I suppose if I had to name a favorite it would be her. Oh, and having just seen Prince Caspian twice, I am harboring a bit of an obsession with Ben Barnes.

But people in general? I love my friends and family, my teachers, pretty much everyone I know, everyone who has influenced my life, good or bad, as I believe that all experiences shape us. And since I love myself (I'm a bit of a self-absorbed narcissist to be completely honest), I love these people. I suppose I love humanity, even if I think the worst of it.
Books: Here is a partial list:

Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Notes from the Underground, Gone With the Wind, The Secret History, Lord of the Flies, The Bell Jar, The Harry Potter series, Paris in the Terror, The Anne of Green Gables series, Exodus, Candide, The Great Gatsby, This Side of Paradise, The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress, Asterix (yes, the greatest comic books known to man which have taught me an indescribable amount of Roman history)
...many more

My current reading material: The Age of Innocence by Wharton

Just read: Lost Illusions, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Brothers Karamazov, The Stranger, War and Peace (I actually finished the most tedious book known to man- and yes I fell asleep once or twice- and also cried twice over Andrei- oh why, seriously, why Andrei?), One Hundred Years of Solitude, and The Secret History. Yeah, I like to read a lot.
Places: Rome, Paris, Munich, Vienna, Italy in general, St.John in the Virgin Islands.
Foods: Pretty much anything involving chocolate is good. I love Italian food, particularly spaghetti vongole. I also love Chinese food. Sushi is another favorite of mine. I do like my Bavarian food. French, of course. I like Indian food. I even get the occasional craving for hamburgers. I like many types of food. Of course, there are also many things I dislike. For instance, I don't eat shellfish. Or ham. Or turkey. Or eggplant. Or cucumber. Those are just some of the things I don't eat. There's no rhyme or reason to what I like and what I don't like.
Drinks: Cappuccino, frappuccino, tea, hot chocolate, Almdudler, aranciata, limonata, fanta, lemonade, orangina, milk, cranberry juice, Apfelschorle, and good old H2O.
Sports: TENNIS!!!, ski jumping, biathlon, soccer, most winter sports that involve snow, Tae Kwon Do, etc
Other: I'm awesome. That's all you need to know.

You can figure out for yourself whether I'm kidding or not.

Yeah, well I have to watch Wimbledon. Damn! Because I so didn't want to! =P
skittles
It'd be a lot. $10+ I'd guess.
skittles
No, I have to pay 1 cent for every megabyte that I download. Ok, maybe $30 was an exaggeration, but you get me.
skittles
And I don't want to be $30 in the hole. =P
skittles
I have it, it just costs too much to watch live streaming of football matches.
skittles
Internet at uni costs too much. =(
skittles
Nope. We get 8 live games on free-to-air here, the rest are on Setanta Sports. Which I have at home, but not here at uni. We got 7 group stage games and the final. *angry*
skittles
Yeah, I should get free-to-air television so I can actually watch the second week of the Australian Open. Although I say that every year, but I never actually bug my mother to do anything about it.

I watched 60 games of the 2006 World Cup. Sleeping 7am to 4pm is awesome. =D
skittles
Yeah, everyone's going to royally hate me during the Olympics. I may have to buy myself a television aerial for in my room. That way I'll only upset the 5 people around me in my dorm when I'm cheering my head off 12 hours a day. Between Australia and Natalie Coughlin, I'm sure I'll get my share of swimming to cheer about alone. =D
skittles
Ouch. I love this time of year. Everything just flows into one another. French Open > Wimbledon > Le Tour. *drools*
skittles
Hey Laura, would you like a slice of this delicious humble pie I'm serving up? Casey Dellacqua baked it, but Patty Schnyder couldn't finish it all. =P
watchayakan
Pfft, like I am empathetic to you at all. :o

Lucky you - I'm still in school! I won;t get to go anywhere until August, which should be pretty good. How's Munich so far? Are you spending the whole two months there?
watchayakan
I thought about it, but there's nothing I felt the need to say. You know what I think/feel. There were some people I feel close to that I added merely because I figured they'd feel blegh if I didn't, but I trusted you not to.

You will have an Internet connection down there, right?!
