We have this thing called Week Without Walls every Feb., and you choose all of these courses, either inland or overseas that lasts a week. Since I was only a fresh. last year, I wasn't chosen for the Medical Internship, but next year, I plan on doing this Operation Smile mission. We go to small villages in Thailand [where I live] and we assist doctors in performing operations on children with cleft lips and cleft palettes. Personally, to be so young and able to help doctors, even if it's just handing tools, wow, what an experience.
Exactly. Just because they're not supposed to cry along with a grieving family doesn't mean that they shouldn't outright care about the patient and their needs.
Yeah, I think we said this on another reply, but it's fine (:
I said that I have high standards for university and if I got into an Ivy League, I would be the first on both sides of my family. My cousin is a med student at UCLA, and I was thinking about doing the first four initial undergrad years there, then moving to another university more specialized in medicine. |

It sparked an interest when I heard about Doctors Without Borders, too. I think just being out there, not just in a hospital, with people dying of diseases most people never get to see up-close, well, I think that saving a life, for me, would just be amazing. Yeah, they make a lot of money, but when it comes down to it, no amount of money can bring back a life...that's why, if I become a doctor, I'm going to do everything I can to make every single patient my priority. Especially since I want to go into the sub-branch of cardiovascular surgery.
I'm really sorry about your parents. I haven't had someone very close to me [e.g. parents or uncles and aunts] get diagnosed with cancer, but both sides of my family have some severe heart cases. My last living grandparent, my maternal grandmother, died about four years ago after suffering with a pacemaker for about two years. Doctors aren't really supposed to show emotion, but sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't. I want to be one of those that shows at least some sort of compassion for every patient and their family, whether the news is good or bad.
Oh, jeez, I was gonna join y'all for a party sometime! Haha. Ah, well, that's a great idea on behalf of the school. How many students are part of the fraternity? |

Well, for me, being a doctor...it was something I've always wanted to be for a long time, ever since I was 6 [it wasn't just something triggered by watching Grey's Anatomy or ER, etc.]. My mom was a nurse but she grew up with less financial help than most others...and she was from the Philippines, which was and still is a poor country. She eventually did get help, but the lady couldn't offer enough money for the more years needed to be a doctor, so my mom became a nurse instead. Even though she didn't force me to be a doctor or even go down the medicine track, I just wanted to continue her dream...to see her daughter get the dream she originally wanted.
Oh, that's cool you're in a fraternity. Frat boy, LOL (:
I don't really do much besides study and hang out with friends. My parents actually don't want me getting a job, and it's really hard anyway...trying to get a job here. And I'm good at very few sports, but I thrive to be the best I can be at those sports. I was on the swimming team for freshman year. I think I'll try out for volleyball when it comes around, since last time I didn't do it because I was a new student [for about the 9th time] and really shy.
Oh, well, the million dollar question...I have very high standards when it comes to school. My parents say they don't mind, but I know they do. But if I could get into an Ivy League...well, I'd be the first on both sides of my family (: |

No problem (:
Oh, wow, you are a genius. Seriously, I want to be a genius, but my GPA is only 3.92 [that wasn't mean to brag or sound conceited...I seriously don't think it's the best I can do]. But I'm already doing what is called a college-level English class for Sophomore year [yes, I'm going to the 10th grade]. I had the entrance exam, which...ugh, I honestly don't know how I got in. I said all this crap about the metaphor and literary devices that "indulged the reader into a mind-opening 5 minutes of Seamus Heaney's famous poem." Pfft, LOL.
What are your interests, though? And what do you do at college?
I plan, if I can get into a good enough college, to choose the medicine track (: |
