If it makes you happy, then go for it

Personally I wouldn't rule out all drugs and drinking, especially since I haven't done much of either. I wouldn't mind having fun once and in a while and trying some. Really don't see how sex is in the same category as the other ones but I mean it's up to you.

It's not sure about the sex rule (I don't respect it) but for the others, I made this choice because I think alcohol and drugs are not "good" for us

My personal experience is that people who abstain from drugs and sex are fine. People who call themselves "Straight Edge" as a result, however, usually turn out to be judgmental assbites.

Whatever makes you happy, as long as you don't shove your views down others' throats.

I was at a party recently and this super drunk dude from Milwaukee asked me why I didn't drink. I didn't really have a good answer, other than that I didn't enjoy it. He was also fascinated to hear that I don't do drugs of any kind (mostly for the same reason). He then concluded that I was "straight edge" and no amount of dissuading could convince him that I never identified myself as that and really had no idea about the movement, whatsoever.
Most "straight edge" people that I was aware of in high school were long-haired metal heads who didn't speak to anyone and looked like they were long overdue for a shower."It'd be funny if it weren't so pathetic. Oh, what the heck, I'll laugh anyway. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

There's no way in hell I believe that you can't have fun without drinking or doing drugs, because I'm pretty sure I've had fun over my life without them so far. I don't see how you got that from what I was saying at all. It's my personal look on it, not saying that the OP won't have just as much fun as anyone who does choose to not be straight edge.
I can't get over something I don't care about.

John that would simply be MY idea of having some fun. That doesn't mean it's my only idea of having fun, sorry to be misleading.
And oops. My bad.

I think it's a personal lifestyle choice that makes one no greater and no worse than the rest of the human population. In my mind it's on the same level as religion - if you don't try to shove your values down my throat then I don't really give a rat's ass how you are living your life.

my experience of "straight edge" participants is that they do what they do to conform to a set of rules, rather than making a decision of "I don't like this, therefore I don't" that, for example, you've done
I mean obviously not all straight edge people are like that and I don't know if the OP does that, but the phrase is tainted by association for me

Much the same as a promise or purity ring. Many participants wear the ring because they believe it reinforces their decision, rather than allowing the ring to stand as a material representation of their beliefs. Almost like a placebo of sorts.
As for straight edge, sounds like a high school goth club who enjoy cutting themselves.
You can jump a ride
But don't ask why
And don't close your eyes
This is a song for no one
I'm fun to follow!

I don't like this 'straight edge' bullshit. If I went around preaching it, I'd alienate my drug-using, sexually active friends.
I practice moderation.

they take those things to the extreme. Extremes in any direction arnt too good. Just look at the FSU, that straight edge gang goes around concert venues and beat up people that do drugs or act in any way that doesnt please them
I generally dislike straight edge as movement, tho I dont have problem with people that dont drink or do drugs etc.
