Obama's campaign staff later recorded their reaction
I actually kind of like this, in a way. Had Romney chose Portman I still would have voted against him...but I probably would have felt bad about it. Now, though, I can vote against him with a clear conscience.
Anyway, I'm off to work now, just thought you all would want to know

Decent pick. It opens plenty of doors but closes a few others.

Don't understand choosing Paul Ryan over Rob Portman. One thing I will say is that he's a solid speaker who comes across as a decent likable guy. I don't want to call it a desperate move, but it's a pretty big risk and it undermines everything Romney's stood for up to this point in a way. These days all you've got to do to get a large % of people's votes is be charismatic. Still should've picked Portman.

did he really say that? fail.
Although Obama almost made a similar flub with Biden.
Pros: Will satisfy the conservative base and might help with turnout, and will most definitely underscore the differences with Obama. . Also, is intelligent and seems likable. Has star power that Romney lacks.
Cons: Wants to change SS and Medicare as we know it, so Romney just may have crapped away the senior vote.
And I'm also skeptical of the idea that being a US rep from Wisconsin for 14 years qualifies one to take over the presidency, if need be. Better than Palin, though.Last edited by Evlmstr; 08-11-2012 at 12:34 PM.

I'm also not big on the fact that Romney just lost Ohio which would have been a possible win with Portman. Ryan's not going to be enough to win Wisconsin...

The perceived problem with Portman is that he is a boring old white guy. Ryan is younger and more exciting. Further, Portman is a policy wonk with an Ivy League background, and he is known for his moderate stances and willingness to work with the Democrats. None of that would have appealed to the base.

I think that a lot will depend on how successfully the Obama campaign hits them on the entitlement issue. They really need to seize on this gift-wrapped opportunity to put Romney on the defensive. Mitt better hope that Ryan's star power/likability deflects attention away from the fail policy. I don't think that will work, but I guess we will see.

His plan sucks and he's a raging homophobe. I hope this is the nail in the coffin for Romney.

Because the gays were really on the fence about Romney before, lol.

I've ran into quite a few of them. Usually rich white gay "straight acting" (whatever the hell that means) males who think money can buy them into honorary straight status in society.
But that's beside the point. Romneys problem is that he's not that likeable within his own party and he refuses to really talk about his economic plan that he says it is going to save America. Also a lot of people believes he comes off as an entitled rich guy. So his solution is to pick someone who comes from a family of doctors and pretends to know shit about economics with a plan that's going to flush medicare down the toilet. They should know by now that seniors are not to be fucked with.

Aye, seniors are such an annoying demographic. Will be dead, won't offer anything more to society, but all important.

Picking Ryan was a stupid move no doubt. But I also do not want Obama in office. I was just gonna vote for the Green Party.. but now I am tied up in arms. blahh.

What I don't understand is that Romney attacks Obama for the cuts he made to medicare, but the Ryan plan keeps the cuts Obama made to medicare. Im starting to wonder if he actually read the Ryan plan.
