I have spent most of my summer working out trying to get in awesome shape but I can't get cut abs like some of the dudes on this site. Is there a specific exercise that can do this better than normal ab exercises?

Any exercises that work your core, but you need to lose body fat in general which you can't target-lose. you have to lose it all over.
This means cardio.
Lots of cardio.
Reducing your carbs and sugar intake will also help.[06.26.2010]<3

Workout is only half the job. It's not about the exercises, it's about fat loss. You need to be around 13% body fat for the abs to be somewhat visible.
If you want to achieve this for the long haul, fix your diet up; that means lots of fruits, veggies, and lean meat, while avoiding fast food, soda, white bread, white rice, grains, lentils, and basically carbs in general. You need to be on a caloric deficit. For me around 1500 cals a day is good. This is called cutting.
You will still need to train at least 3 times a week. Cardio is important for fitness and your heart in general, but it burns off muscle as well, which you don't want, so I would avoid making it your primary source of training.
IF you want this done as fast as possible, I suggest going on a ketogenic cycle. 2 weeks of under 50g of carbs a day, 3 day carb load, then another 2 weeks of under 50g. Looking at your pics now, I guarantee you'll have defined abs in a month. However, it'll only stay like that for a couple of weeks at most, you can't sustain keto forever, it's unhealthy, and you're going to feel weak practically all the time. You should remove a set from all of your lifts while on it.
Just go on keto for a month, get a couple pictures, go to the beach a couple times, get laid, and then go back to your maintenance diet.

I highly recommend planks for core. But also make sure you don't forget obliques. I prefer intervals when I do cardio and I usually just use the treadmill. A lot of gyms have row machines now (the actual rowing technique like in a boat,) and that's hell of a workout too. And 70% of the battle takes place in the kitchen too.

To add onto what some of the other guys have said, you also need good workouts. Multiple routines help keep your body from adjusting to the movements involved. One of mine is just a straight 200 situps...
