Sometimes they end up dating....but not always. I know a girl who's best friend is a guy, yet they're both in relationships....and I have some great guys friends myself that I have no intentions of ever dating.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "too close," because the definition of that term is largely based on context. I do think it's entirely possible for a guy and a girl to have a close friendship without ever dating. One of my closest friends is a guy who I have never come anywhere close to dating.

I think maybe I should have said "too comfortable". . .like if they ask you a question and you answer it without thinking about it, but then later you start thinking about it and you realize that if anyone else had asked, you wouldnt have answered it. . .does that make sense?

I don't see what this has to do with dating. I'm pretty sure there are some things you could easily tell your closest, very best friend that you couldn't tell a person you're dating. I thought you were talking about physical intimacy or something, which is when people usually ask themselves whether they're just friends with someone or if there's something more.

A guy and a girl will not be close friends without sexual desire on at least one side. It's senseless.
