Harry potter kicks the shit out of LOTR imo

They're both pretty good but I can get into Harry Potter a bit more. LOTR books can be difficult to sit through and so can the movies just because of the length, although the HP books got quite long toward the end too.

Harry Potter books are better than the movies, LOTR movies are better than the books.

There's a large time gap between the two, which undoubtedly makes LOTR more difficult for people of our time to digest. It's very high quality but very slow-paced like Sherlock Holmes.
I'm from the Harry Potter generation though. I grew up on that shit, both the books and the movies.

While I enjoy both series, I've always preferred LOTR over harry potter, both in terms of the literature and films. I just feel that Tolkien's work is far more complex, in a way Rowling never achieved. Alongside producing a comprehensive history of Middle Earth, Tolkien created complete languages for for the Hobbit and LOTR. There's so much content in Tolkien's work that even after reading/watching it, it makes me want to go back to it later, something I've not felt compelled to do with Harry Potter as of yet.

I have no experience in Tolkien's literature but I own the LOTR film set. I've seen all the HP films and I've read all the books.
That said, the cinematic excellence you have with LOTR trumps HP by leaps and bounds. The soundtrack is also pretty damn pro in comparison to HP.
