"What's this rap everyones referring to? The genres called hip hop, as KRS one once said: "Rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live"."

a few things to note. that quote is about the music being rap, one part of a larger subculture which would be the hip-hop. krs-one is batshit insane (and he sucks!) and would like to be called hip-hop while he makes gospel albums.

There is a difference between rap and what is currently presented on the radio today. Honestly, if you want to be technical. The 80's had better rap than we do now.

True, when he's referring to Hip hop he's talking about the subculture, but by the use of the word "do" it seems likely he's referring to rap as what it was, a verb and not a genre. I just don't think "rap" can be described as a genre, in my experience people I know who use that word apply it in the broadest sense, mostly mistaking hip hop for rap. Sure there's subgenres which use the word rap, i.e. gangster rap, rap metal, but there's nothing that's just rap.

Might just be me being pedantic, but it just seems annoying to me that just because someone is rapping on a beat, its rap. Its like defining all songs with the use of an electric guitar as metal.

Rappers are chosen nowadays. You don't need talent, you just need to be as lucrative as possible for the record labels and whoever else. $$$ ruins everything.

Another reason why I hate most rap: some of the fans are more annoying than Justin Bieber's fangirls.

Has nothing to do with race, but you don't understand it unless you're a certain race.

The "s" at the end of the word "kids" made it plural, meaning you were talking about more than just him.
