My justifications over the years have pretty much evaporated for personally eating meat. I've gone to an extremely low-meat diet.
But I'll be goddamned if most of the vegetarians I've ever met haven't been obnoxious fucks, to the point that it surprises me when I meet one who isn't.

Walking through the field, pulling a carrot out of its home, peeling its skin off and then cutting it up to boil it in a vegetarian soup isn't exactly humane. Carrots are living things as well. You disgust me.

Starving is a bit of a different story.
These horses are being killed because they have a hefty price tag in other countries, NOT because Americans are hungry.
Even though I am an extreme equine lover, I do not believe in banning the plants altogether; I just want the practices of slaughter houses to have regulations, so it is more of a humane practice than it is torture. Maybe refine their process of knocking these horses out, and have more humane transportation practices. Horses are transported in over-crowded double deck cattle trucks in which the horses cannot even hold their heads up correctly, which results in the inability to hold proper balance. The drivers are not allowed to tend to the horses whatsoever, so the horses do not get food or water. And because of this, horses that accidentally slip (Due to the balance issues earlier discussed..), they are usually trampled to death.
However, everyone needs to make a living. And studies have shown that while horse slaughter was banned in America, the horses had to endure the traumatic shipping experience for longer periods of time, due to the fact that they now had to be transported to Canada and Mexico. And the amount of unwanted horses skyrocketed, flooding struggling humane societies, or just being neglected. It was a good form of population control, as gut wrenching as it is...
So, like I said, I would not mind the practice of horse slaughter if the slaughterhouses were given stricter regulations that STICK.
Also, horses are given medicines and worming pastes that are TOXIC to humans. So we are slaughtering and consuming animals that have toxic chemicals in their system... Just something to think about...
A look into horse slaughter. You can make your own conclusions."I've always felt that Chevrolet made

I agree with most of what your saying, but i still think they need to be banned. Every horse deserves a long, happy, fulfilled life. There is no reason to murder a horse.

I agree with this. I am an equine extremist; I have been riding since I was 9, and I started training them when I was 15. I understand the language of the horse, and I am obsessed with the beauty and personality of them. I've owned and loved horses all of my life, and I would love to see the brutality end without external consequences. In a perfect world, this would end, and horses could live the long lives they deserve. But, despite this love for horses, I am also a realist. I know very well that no matter what laws are passed, these slaughterhouse owners are going to find a way to get around the loopholes, and since it is a multi-million dollar industry, the government will always let it slide. So, knowing that the chances of it stopping it altogether is very low, I would at least like revision of their practices, so that the horses can at least have a peaceful ending. I believe the only way to stop it is to convince the consumers of the product to stop, so that the slaughterhouses have no choice but to close their doors. But that is a big feat, that realistically, will not happen in our lifetime. So creating regulations for humane practices is a start, and better than nothing at all. I hope you can see where I am coming from.

I completely understand, in a way i wish i was in control, i know id stop it in every way i could, and many more things that i see unfit now. Any man or woman that would kill a horse deserves the same fate, if you ask me.

Of course, I hate watching cruelty. I volunteered at a humane society, and I couldn't believe some of the animals we had come in... I had to leave, eventually seeing hurt and distressed animals was too much. I had night terrors and eventually had to go. It's incredibly inhumane. All animals deserve love and respect, whether they are 'bred to be eaten' or not. They still have emotions, feelings... horrible. I don't know if you've noticed the rodeo hype lately, horses and cattle being injured in rodeos at a startling rate...

I watched this video once before and had a hotdog that same night without any problems. I believe in humane treatment for animals, but shock videos like this don't bother me to the point of not wanting to eat meat.

It is awkward because I am eating Slim Jims right now. I love meat and i will never become a vegan or whatever but I think that the way they treat animals IS disgusting.
Becoming a vegetarian or vegan will not stop the way these animals are treated. There needs to be more regulations and stuff to stop this. If people really wanted to stop this they can by protesting, etc.
How can those workers sleep at night knowing that they do that to animals? They are the pigs. There should definitely be more humane ways of raising the animals and killing them PAINLESSLY.

I’ve been vegan for almost two years (and pescetarian for a couple before that) because I don’t want anything to do with this if I can help it. People can do what they want though, and I know not everyone has the luxury to care.

I've been a vegetarian for almost 7 years now, and against leather, fur, and other things from the dead animal. It does bother me to know animals are slaughtered and treated this way for people, but I feel we can only do so much about it at this point. It may bother me to eat, wear, or use something from a dead animal, but millions of people in the world don't view this the same. I have met more people who are following the dietary parts of vegetarianism/veganism for their health, than doing it for animal welfare.
No, I'm not a preachy one either. Videos passed around the internet don't always effect people, and they come off as people pushing it.

Mass production of food in general doesn't come across as the healthiest thing to me anyway. Slaughterhouses, pesticides, artificial growth hormones, etc. are inevitable when populations are so high and so urbanized. Even plants and vegetables need a little chemical to be as pretty and abundant for our vegetarians, never mind for the mixed veggies with the sirloin.
