Default Time to move away from desktop / laptops already?

Do you think it's time to move away from using laptops and desktops and begin to use tablets more?

Seeing as they are far easier and a lot more portable than laptops it would make sense. Most are now powerful enough to run proper games. Plus, support keyboard, mouse, controllers, etc.

Not to mention price. I recently picked up a Android 4.0 tablet with a 10.1" screen for $200.

tablets are fine for some stuff but cant really replace my laptop or dekstop. Biggest problem about them is input devices, and if you are going to carry keyboard around you might as well carry laptop.

I enjoy tablet for leisure watching of movies reading books/news but for any type of work they arnt up to the job.

Roll up keyboard? Some projection keyboards double as touchpad mice (Seems silly for a tablet)

I'm with you on the whole productivity side of things. I couldn't see myself sitting with a tablet typing away like I do on a PC.

But still, Something like a slide out keyboard for a tablet. Basically a way to have the best bits of a tablet and a laptop in tablet form.

Think, ASUS Transformer, but no real base. I dunno, something to think about!

I think ARM still has a fair way to go before tablets can truly replace a desktop. Until then, the desktop will still hang around and maintain its uses.

Doesn't the Asus Transformer and that tablet Microsoft gave out at the BUILD conference last year have a keyboard dock? Then you just connect any mouse via bluetooth and you're good to go!

Microsoft Surface is a great example of how tablets are moving forward. It also depends on your needs. I sold my desktop recently so my iPad is all I use and covers almost all my needs. It does have some disadvantages, but they're few and I believe developers will fix the issues in time. The work I do on my tablet is writing LaTeX documents. I wish it was easier to transfer media between external memories and the tablet, and I wish it was a bit more independent.
