Well I don't own one of these devices, but do know people who do, don't watch much television for that matter. Hopefully, the courts won't turn millions of American commercial-skippers into lawbreakers.

Whoever created the auto commercial-skipping facility is an idiot. A lawsuit was the only way forward for the networks as commercials is how they make their money. People have managed fine for decades by simply fast forwarding past the commercials, was there really a need to change?

If they put Nielsen ratings devices in the dvr and counted the dvr recording as 1 to 2 viewers they wouldn't be suing. Technically they're getting money by having people record the shows as the dvr is watching the show for people to watch later.

Interesting that you blame the government when A) this is a lawsuit filed by the networks, not the government, B) it hasn't been ruled on yet, and C) similar suits in the past have been routinely rejected by the courts.
