Disco Cool Gaming History and the PS3...worth it?

My gaming history in brief. When I was a kid, I owned a Sega Genesis 16-bit system. I also played "Hi Super Nintendo Chalmers!" and the NES. Gameboy, Game Gear and later when it came out, the Gameboy Advance. Then it was the N64 and Playstation, then the Gamecube and Xbox, PS2. I've also tried the Dreamcast and of course I have been an off and on PC gamer since '99. I used to own an Xbox 360 and later for less than a year, a Nintendo Wii. Now all I have is my laptop, which I still play my very first and most cherished computer game: Mechwarrior 3. I also have another Gameboy advance, identical to the one I had like 7 years ago.

The only system I have not owned of the current generation is the Playstation 3. My type of internet, a radio based highspeed rural service, is not compatible with the Xbox Live service, but it has been compatible with the Wii and PS3's internet connectivity capabilities and of course ideal for online PC gaming. My big brother never had lag when he would play "Call of Duty: Black Ops." I know some would say "hey man, you have a laptop, just stick to PC gaming," but for me, I have always been a console gamer. The reason I sold my 360 and Wii, is simply because I was not taking full advantage of their capabilities, the xbox's Live service, and the Wii's motion controls (I still have "Super Smash Bros. Brawl). *Lucario! Luario! Lucario!* lol

I could take full advantage of the PS3 though, as my internet works fine with the Playstation Network and I have a high end 3-D TV, so I could give those fancy 3-D games a go too. My only concerns are, that I have read that 3-D gaming causes headaches, and that the PSN has been hacked in the past. I guess that's another reason I'm not a hardcore PC gamer, all too easy to get hacked and get malware and all that crazy shit lol! So basically, I just want to know...is it worth it? Should I get a PS3 this year? Thoughts? Questions? Should I just wait for the next generation of consoles to come out in like 3-4 years? If you think I should get a PS3, what games would you recommend I check out (rent)? Which should I own? Your experiences? The Pros and cons of the PSN? The Playstation Move thing vs. the Kinetic (which I never tried)? One thing I never had, and probably never will have an interest in, are the PSPs. Thanks for reading this! Game on! Play on, playah! lol!

Short answer, yes, get one. Wipeout and Uncharted are the best games.

Long answer, Get one, but dont buy games or content on PSN. It's not secure. Good for demos though. Also, dont count out the PS Vita. It's not as bad as a PSP. I'd actually get a Vita over a PS3. But I have both because I could afford to get both. But really, get a Vita. They are pretty amazing really. But, if you're set on a console. PS3 is good really.

Ah, thanks for the good advice! If even one person replies to another on here, that can make all the difference. ^,,^

Get the vita. Dont buy a PS3, unless you're just in it for the games and not the quality of the games/online. The actual stats of a PS3 are worse than xbox as for graphics, it's the same.. (google image it) there's just a slight saturation difference. If you're more of an online/social gamer, get the xbox (I have an xbox ;P) I mod consoles, I can't really mod a PS3 cause it's a bitch. But I know the ins and outs of xbox, and the parts are pretty awesome already. Also if your PS3 breaks the customer support is shite, they just give you an old PS3 or they just dont fix it (you cant fix it yourself..), if an xbox breaks, you can replace whatever is broken with old xbox parts, or new ones (off ebay presumably, buy off good people) for about $40 or less, and replace. And you can also mod the performance of an xbox super easily.

The online on xbox is better, and the campaign/gameplay is the same as a PS3, the grahics are the same, however PS3 has more games.. Both consoles have their ups and downs, but if you're a lazy gamer, PS3.

Another one suggesting I get a Vita. Gosh, they must be something then. o,,o I shall seriously take it into consideration. Not sure precisely what you mean by being a lazy gamer. Casual gamer? In any event, thank you very much for your input! Also, as I mentioned, my type of internet does not allow me to connect an xbox to it at all, ergo I cannot use Xbox Live at all. If I could, I would doubtlessly have kept my old 120 GB xbox 360 elite. Oh I had so many games for it...why did I sell it!? XD

D: how did it not let you connect..? The wifi system in the xbox is actually considerably better than the PS3... And by lazy gamer = someone who can't be bothered to modify their system to make it the best it can be, or who can't be bothered to fix it when it breaks XD

Oohh, well I do like to tinker with electronics and things, but I am also an astute observer of those "Caution do not open, shock may result" warnings on the consoles lol! Still, I am a quick study, so perhaps I could learn how to properly modify a 360 as you have. As for the internet issue, I don't remember why it wouldn't let me connect my old xbox, it just did not work at all.

That's really odd.. As for learning how to mod xboxes, embarrasingly I wasn't cool enough to learn through full trial and error, I youtubed my way up their ;P. You'd be surprised how many good tutorials are on their, it's cheap aswell. Modding is fun (Y). Also is a good way of recycling XD, I still have my old arcade for parts incase my new one breaks down aha (the only thing broken was the wire melting, rest is working) got a new one cause my arcade was old anyway, I wanted the Slim aha..

That is probably how I would learn as well, youtube is indeed very useful. It was partially through there that I learned how to replace my car's rear brakes, along with some typed up articles I found on the subject. I am glad I am a man who enjoys using his hands, with a life long passion for learning. I have been thinking, and I am once more considering just getting a new xbox. So what if I can't game online with it, I like gaming period, so I'm all for it! Besides, I miss playing my Dead Space and Dead space 2 games! (x Oh and Halo...I can't believe I sold my original Halo for 3 bucks at a community yard sale! XD

Buy a new xbox ! I'm insulted you even did such a crime as sell your games -_-. I'd say get the xbox and the ps vita, depending on how much money you have lying around.. If not then just the vita and save up for a new xbox. If you are going to buy a ps3 though, wait until ps4 comes out, then it'll go down in price... I dont know, both have pros and cons.. Look into the internet problem though, call microsoft about it they help a great deal, my friend does it ofton to get free games LOL.

Yeah, if each game being sold would cost me seriously like a year in jail, I'd get 15 with no possibility of parole! I think I *will* get a new xbox, or at least a good used one. I take very good care of ll my stuff, so really getting one brand new is pointless to me. I know some would say "oooh but bro, it will be under warranty!" True, but I have never ever had a problem with my consoles, it is the human factor (namely my little nephews lol) that contribute to any losses. On the other hand, I could simply be happy with my Gameboy advance. Gaming is gaming, no matter which platform, big or small, I've played 'em all. ^,,^ Except for the PSP...and the Nintendo DS....and the 3DS...and the Vita, but other than that, I've played the rest and chosen the best!

Resolution, saturation, processing and power differences are huge differences. Whoever told you otherwise is an idiot. The PS3 is more powerful and produces better images than the Xbox.

It doesnt, I know that for a fact, I used to own both consoles LOL. Plus I've seen lots of comparison images. Only PS3 exclusives have slightly better graphics. I'm with xbox.

I too have witnessed comparisons. However, if I gave a damn about graphics, I would not have cherished my Wii lol Still this continued input is much appreciated! Thanks!

You should definitely get the PS3. Despite what styleandclass is trying to convince you, the PS3 actually does have better graphics than the 360, and I've heard of way fewer hardware problems with the PS3 than I have with the 360.

I got my PS3 for Christmas this past year, and I really, really love it.
