as a christian myself, similar questions have popped up in my life as well. but after lots of thinking and getting opinions from many people, i have concluded that all we need is faith. God doesn't make sense, the Bible and religion don't make complete sense. i'm sure we all could go on and on asking questions about the Bible and how some things seem odd or questionable. but what is the point in that? if christianity was something we could prove, wouldn't everyone be a christian? if God made sense to us and we understood everything about him, what does that say about the kind of God we are worshiping? i personally think it's awesome that God is so great that our simple human minds cannot even grasp everything about him. now that is the kind of God i want to believe in

as for the Bible, i personally do not think it contradicts itself. sometimes it may seem like it, but i think that when reading the Bible, it is suuuuper important that we read everything carefully in context. never read just one verse and assume the meaning, but be sure to read the surrounding verses and even the whole chapter. take into careful consideration who the author was specifically writing to and the time period of which it was written. the Bible can definitely be applied to our lives, but i believe it is more of a revelation of God's character. we read the Bible to understand who he is so we can follow his example and the teachings of Jesus. granted, i do think that there are many, many instructions and guidance in there that can be applied to people of all generations throughout time. but understand that a lot of it is contextual. i personally think it is important not just to read the Bible, but to study it as well. and pray that God will give you wisdom and understanding to interpret it as he would want

i also struggled with the idea that man wrote the Bible. but like i mentioned before, this is where faith comes in. if we truly believe that the Bible is God's word, then we just have to have faith that God protected the Bible through time and everything in it is inspired by him. i personally don't think God would've allowed the Bible to get corrupted and messed up if it is truly his Word. but also a big thing to take into account is translation differences. i've taken a lot of religion courses and every professor always talks about how more clear and beautiful the Bible is in the Hebrew or Greek language. i think that the english versions of the Bible still keep the main ideas (definitely not saying it holds any less "truth"), but i feel as though the Bible in its original language must be even clearer than our version and probably makes a lot more sense haha

My mom is religious, but I think she keeps pushing the bible on her ten-years-running atheist daughter because of it's literary value, and my appreciation for great literature.

"It's a great read, Lyss. You'd love it. There's a lotta evil shit in it."

    Thanks, Mom.
i know the kid with his guitar, so drunk and anxious has been
done to death, but tell me what hasn't, i'll try it.
because i'm selfish enough to wanna get better, but i'm
backwards enough not to take any steps to get there.

ok I respect your views but let me tell you my view on the bible. It was inspired by God and he had different men put it down in writing. Did you know that the bible has one theme throughout the whole book? It is God's universal sovereignty. Quite amazing. If you actually were to read the bible you would notice that if thieves and slanderers and fornicators and such were to repent from their wrong doing that God would forgive them? If someone robbed you over ten times you would probably be very upset, but if they were repentant and asked for your forgiveness and never did it again more than likely you would forgive them. God is forgiving but the person has to have the right heart condition toward God. Everyone that tells me that the bible contradicts itself has never been able to show me what is actually a contradiction. And having read the bible personally myself I have never seen one. Could you give me an example? I would like to see it. you can message me one. But I believe the bible is inspired of god it is his way to communicate with humans and help them to live good moral lives.

Everyone's views are different so we'll all be waiting....I guess you could say waitng, although it's more like not really caring, when you can challenge like with like instead of being a set mind saying prove it........honestly what you have said more seems a looking down on someon's dilemmas instead of being interested, or as, if I remember it correctly, actually showing you love your brother......hmmm......did jesus say that?
