Duramax, only because it's really Isuzu and sadly because Americans can't really make anything worth a damn.
The only thing that makes reality is death.
And then they hang it on a cross and kneel down and pray to it.

Dodge does not make their own "diesel" engines either. Cummins is an independent company that also builds power-plants for the Medium-Duty commercial F-650/750 lineup. Ford also builds their own engines for their trucks. GM does too; they build their engines in Mexico mostly.

Nothing wrong with a PSD, they're meant for work. The 6.9 IDI, 7.3 IDI, 7.3 PSD, 6.0 PSD and 6.4 PSD are all products of Navistar International, or Intertnational trucks, and are used in class 6 and 7 trucks and hold up just fine. My pick is still the 6.9 IDI for reliability, cost of maintenance and overall durability of the engine and the trucks they came in.
I'm a diesel tech and have worked on all the engines that came in the big three, including diesel Rangers, and the Nissan IH put in the scouts in '80. I don't like dmaxs because of the truck they're in, not a fan of IT'S, same thing with the Cummins in a Dodge, with a manual trans, the whole drivetrain is made by someone else but you still have to deal with a shitty designed body and wiring. We have ten common rails at work, and they all have wiring issues, and the auto trans have all been replaced at least once, some twice or three times.

there are alot of things wrong with the newer psd. the cam sensor constantly going out in the 7.3, the heads, turbo and egr going out on the 6.0 and the 6.4 going into regen at idle which wouldnt be a huge deal if ford used decent injectors but they didnt so it is a big deal. the duramax with the injectors in the lb7, and yes dodge cannot make a automatic transmission to save their ass but ive never had a problem with the body or wiring in my common rail.

6.7 cummins have just as many issues with hg and egr failure as 6.0s do. Had one at work lift a head at 103k miles. Every person I know that says psd is junk doesn't understand heui injection used by cat and navistar. 7.3 cps issues have been solved for quite a while, with the purple int model. It's just like anything else, they all have issues just gotta know how to fix em. Being that I've owned all a 7.3, dmax, and now have a 12 valve, I'd take the 7.3 any day, most comfortable interior, and favorite to drive. Yes they cost a Little more to upgrade and might not make 1500 hp without different heads but they will tow all day everyday.

Well I own the new 6.7 L power stroke and I got an exhaust and tuner for it and she blows a ton of black smoke and gets a lot of looks sounds crazzzy. I've beat every truck into area in a race. I wouldn't trade it for anything
