Oh yeah that would be crazy. I would try and do something crazy to it. Maybe a boosted big block, and upgrade the rear end and suspension; you can still off-road, just... a lot faster! Projects are always fun, I am probably picking up a 69 Javelin this summer, I'm really stoked. I'll have this '91 as a drag car, and have the other Camaro and the Javelin as summer weekend show/cruising cars. It's just kind of an expensive hobby lol.

Ah I wouldn't want to do fast off roading, I'm all about crawling. And I'm gonna put a V8 in it, get a 5 inch lift and some big tires, put in a complete roll cage, get some aussie lockers, and good stuff like that. Definitely looking forward to the lift and lockers.
I'd love to have a muscle car to cruise in. My friends dad bought a '69 chevelle in great condition, but he died and my friend owns it now. It's sad to see him abuse it=/
And yeah it's a very expensive hobby. That's why I'm waiting until I have a real job to start it

Oh that would be some sick shit.
And that IS sad. I was prowling the junkyard a couple days ago looking for 'Maro parts, and I stumbled across a 71 Nova SS that was pretty much crunched in half.. It breaks my heart; that car doesn't deserve to be there.. I stole the knob off the shifter to remember him by. (I'm weird like that..)
And for sure, the body work alone on the Javelin is gonna be about 3 grand.. That's not even touching under the hood! But I mean, I am willing to put in the effort to see her all pretty and restored in my garage... I got lucky with the Camaro, body parts on that generation are EVERYWHERE used! So I can focus more on the performance components; the motor swap will be pricey, due to the fact that it's an LS series motor.

    No not really...
They are more pricey then a basic 350 or the LT motors. And with the rising demand, parts for the motors have gotten more expensive. I price out parts for my build everyday, trust me.

what parts? how much power you need?

    get a 5.3 or a 6.0 if the 1000 dollar premium is too much.. a 400 hp 350 or 383 will be around 4 ls1 ls2 will be 5? 5.3 is 1500 max.. with a big turbo.,. still cheaper.

I was planning the LQ9 bored out to the 418; it tends to be a common build... But it is still a very sturdy block. I'm going brand spanking new, I have bad luck with used >.<
And I was planning more of a twin turbo setup. I am just looking for something tame to the point that I can still enjoy on a sunny day, but when I need her to fly, she will move. Maybe 800 tops, on low boost? That block will handle it all day, every day. I priced out the block, crank, rotation assembly, heads, and a cam & valve set for about 5k.

Not necessarily... I could just beef up the stock motor, but the fact that it is an older, weaker, aluminum block... there's not much that can be safely done without building up the internals.
It will be a bit of a headache swap (As the transmission needs to go, the wiring harness needs to go, and the ECU needs to go... Maybe an exhaust upgrade, but not required.). But I feel it's worth the money if you end up truly enjoy the car, it just sucks that I have such an expensive hobby.

Yes. Both the 305 and the 350.

Oh gosh, what was I thinking.
The internals are aluminum, the block is iron.
I've seen those motors seize under little upgrades, and I was always convinced it was due to a weak block. However, aluminum internals could also explain it.

I guess everyone makes mistakes sometimes..

    they dont have aluminum internals.

they're no different from a 350 from 1974 except for the intake when they went to tpi.

I rebuilt my 305 and very vividly remember pulling out aluminum internals. I know the 305s do for sure; they were not very well designed.
The 350 could be a different story.

    Alright.
Well the moral of the post was:

    305=shit. New LQ9= Nice.

good luck if you need any advice let me know. my first project car was a 1969 camaro z28 from my uncle and all he gave me was the car on a trailer and a new 4 barrel holley carb. he said "if you want a car you'll have to fix this one first" and boy was it a rust bucket. the whole dang engine and every bit of the driveline was rusted solid. ended up putin a 502 ram jet in it.

Gosh, that is one among my dream cars. This friend of my dad's just sold a project '68 for 1800 bucks. It was very unfortunate, I would have bought it if I knew he wanted to sell it. You will have to show me pictures.
