We didn't have to go into a civil war. We could have easily solved everything peacefully.
Obviously, if we allowed the South to fully succeed, they wouldn't have lasted as an independent nation because . . . :
The South had no industry.
The South's economy was made up of agriculture and slaves would have most likely rebelled.
&
The rest of the world will fear recognizing them as an independent nation.

From a Northern perspective, the war was senseless and unjust.

By doing...?
1. South had some industry, nothing to the tune of the North of course, but they had some. But more importantly, who says that a country needs industry to survive? Plenty of countries even today don't have much of an industrial base.Obviously, if we allowed the South to fully succeed, they wouldn't have lasted as an independent nation because . . . :
The South had no industry.
The South's economy was made up of agriculture and slaves would have most likely rebelled.
&
The rest of the world will fear recognizing them as an independent nation.
2. Slaves rebelled before and guess what happened? They were crushed swiftly.
3. Why would they fear recognizing the CSA if we LET them secede, as you suggest? In fact there is plenty of indication that European powers would have recognized the CSA had they won the war.Gentleman, scholar, and fine judge of good whiskey

Not sure if my post came through but wasn't it the North vs South because the north abolished slavery and the South didn't want to? Think the South was mostly in the cotton industry?
