yes!!! i LOVE alternative stuff <3 try Anarbor, they're a newer alternative/indie-ish band A little lighter, but their songs are great and funny annnnd the guitar parts and the bass and OMG the singer's voice is absolutely incredible!.... yeahh I love them <3

Ive recently over the past 6 year fallen i love with the sounds of this genre. I think its pretty amazing. But alot of people hate it. Which I don't understand. I don't really enjoy the stuff on the 'charts'. Like Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

More recently, it's been on the rise if you look at Arcade Fire winning the big Album of the Year at the Grammy's.

I like bands such as The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Arctic Monkeys, Spoon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs,Cage the Elephant, Muse, Metric, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, The Naked and Famous, Rilo Kiley, Mumford & Sons, Broken Bells, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Bat for Lashes, The Black Keys. Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, Gorrilaz.

All those bands are pretty bad ass but ur indie tatse is really mainstream. Try bands like sleigh bells, THE GIVERS, SAINT MOTEL, go periscope, cute is what we aim for, matt and kim. Alotta of ppl would say im indie but i do my own thing. Even though allotta of those band u listed are good they are really popular and u will pay out the ass to go to their concerts. Just google list of indie bands and a good solid list should come up........... And is it me or does everysingle cold play song sound the same!

The term "indie" doesn't describe any sort of musical genre. My own understanding of indie is that the term describes any kind of music produced by an independent music label as opposed to one of the four major labels that dominate the music industry.

Genres are categories, not adjectives. With so many different types of styles and sounds within indie it would crazy to call it it's own genre. It's a bitch thing, but that's the nature of it. I suppose whether or not it can be bastardized or not is up for question.

Although there are some similarities that a lot of indie artists share ie barebones (basic production and not a whole lot of distorted guitars), artsy version of whatever genre it is based upon whether it be rock, pop or folk.

Indie is a genre and a subculture. And artist that makes music outside of the norm and is signed to an independent label or isnt signed at all is an indie artist whether its rap or rock. Its also a life style. Even though a lotta indie ppl say they are independent they flock to those who are like minded so they do the same thimgs. Check out any mom and pop coffee shop or any college town ull see a lotta indie kids. Urban outfitters sells indie stuff. Its all about vintage or vintage inspried. Never confuse indie with hipster. Indie kids do stuff cause they truly like it hipster do indie stuff cause its cool now.
