    Default PT Cruiser Problem

I own a 2007 PT Cruiser non turbo. When the check engine light comes on it limits itself to 2200 rpm and will only go 60 mph. If I pull into a gas station to shut it off and start it again Its fine for a while. Drives like normal then the light comes on again and so on and so on. I am thinking that its some soft of senser problem cause if it was mechanical it would be doing this all the time. What do you guys think?

I just figured out that Im not paying for a warranty. Im paying that much for gap insurance. I got it fixed last night. The problem was a bad camshaft positioning senser. I got a Nascar replacement part for around 40 bucks and put it on myself. All I had to do is move the air filter housing out of the way, find the senser which is clearly visible, unplug it, remove 2 bolts, put the new senser in, plug the senser in and put the air filter housing back on. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes. It was so easy! I called a shop for pricing for labor and they all said around 80 bucks. Thats 120 bucks to do a 40 dollar job.

I figued it was worth paying 40 bucks for one with a lifetime warranty than to pay 34 bucks for one with just a one year. They only had those two available.

A lifetime warranty for that part covers that part if it snaps or breaks before it quits working again

A lifetime warranty will depend upon what the manufacturer considers a lifetime to be. In the case of a part for a car, the lifetime of the part is likely only twelve months or a set distance, despite the fact the part may last much longer.

To answer the question above. I noticed that my check engine light was on then I simply went to a parts store, barrowed a computer reading device, and it told me that my camshaft sencer was bad.

And I just want to update everyone on the previous issue. It crapped on me once again about a year ago. I had to the crankshaft senser a couple of months after I replaced the camshaft senser. Then I found out that both sencers were not compatable with my engines computer and my car would not start anymore. I had to go to a dealer to get the compatable sensers. About $400 later I had a perfectly running PT Cruiser and it has been running great for about a year now. I since had to replace a radiator cooling fan a couple of months ago. Cost me $65 online and I put it on myself. Now my AC does not work because my condenser has a leak in it. I can get one for $65 online but it cost 4 hours labor at a shop to put it on and 1 hour of that is just to evacuate the system of moisture so that it wont get moisture damage later. Now that I think about it this is pretty normal for getting a car with 49k miles on it and putting another 40k on it later and having these thing happen. My car now has 82k miles on it and I have only had it for 2 years.

What the hell do you do to that poor car to make it break down?

My PT Cruiser had 230,000 when I totaled it and the only thing I ever put on it other than routine stuff with a shifting module for the transmission.

Are you the origional owner? If you get a Cruiser with over 150k on it then it has already had most of its sensers already replaced and I know that cooling fans dont last that long in them either

I got it around 156k as a handmedown from my parents.

And now that you mention it I think the fan was an issue with mine. I know something was missing from the engine and a shop rigged it up. I can't recall the exact part though.
