There are loads of protein rich veggie foods that are simple to cook - egg being a prime example. As for heartier meals, quinoa especially but also foods made from grains such as bread, wholegrain pasta & rice are high in protein and are powerful nutritional meals combined with high protein pulses or legumes such as chick peas, lentils and beans. They are also high in vitamin B, which a lot of people get primarily from meat. Tofu is also extremely high in protein, along with other soy-based foods. Kale, spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables are high in iron and vitamin B.

I really hope none of you are vegetarians 'for the animals.'
Animals used for dairy products are tortured far worse than animals who are slaughtered.

Vegetarianism encompasses the practice of following plant-based diets (fruits, vegetables, etc.), with or without the inclusion of dairy products or eggs, and with the exclusion of meat. (wikipedia)

It's definitely true that some vegetarians consume things that seem to contradict the spirit of vegetarianism. But it's extremely hard not to, and we all have to draw the line somewhere. Most products, at some stage, have gone through some level of animal testing. Even if the final product isn't tested on animals, it's likely some ingredients were.
Trying to maintain a 'cruelty free' diet inevitably involves making some concessions and just doing the best we can do. We sometimes fail but that isn't necessarily hypocrisy.
I really think we should admire people for avoiding whatever animal suffering they can, rather than deriding them every time they 'fail' in your eyes.Du har blod på dine hænder

Wooooo, veggies!
I went vegetarian in 6th grade, May 2008, when I was 11. I went vegan at the beginning of my Freshman year in high school last year in August, when I turned 14. Why? For the animals, the environment, and my health. In that order. Any questions? ^_^
[I know, I know... blah blah blah, stupid vegan has stupid reasons. I don't care if you don't care. Just eat your food, and I'll eat my food. Okay? Okay. :D
After a while, you learn to just not give a cow's shit. :)]
(Sorry if I seem rude... but this is directed towards the people that insist on arguing with me, or saying something about my beliefs that I just DO NOT care for wasting my time with. For example; "Vegans aren't people." Catch my drift?)
I'm going to sleep, anyways. Happy Holidays! <3 c:

You guys know cows pollute more then cars, the only reason that there are so many cows are because we reproduce them for meat, so by becoming vegetarien you are lowering the need for meet so less cows will be needed and eventually they will only live in the wild and pollution will have diminished TONS!

To those who are ignorant and just plain rude to people who don't eat meat/dairy, etc I have one question to ask .... what the fuck is your problem? Someone doesn't like to include dead animal in their diet ... how awful. /rollseyes.

I've been a vegetarian since birth now and it's mainly to do with the cruelty to animal thing and how my parents wanted me to have a more healthier diet. If any of the newer veggies have any questions about anything then I'd be happy to help
just to put it out there though I am a mentor for other newbie veggies around the UK through a magazine called the vegetarian society (I presume there is an equivalent in other countries around the world?)

I find that the more harshly a farmer beats and abuses their livestock, the more delicious and juicy my steak dinner will be.

Even as a vegetarian I find that really hard to watch. Which I realise is the point, but it's really...wow. The second one, where the woman goes through the drive through, really gets me because the expression on her face at the end is 100% the feeling I've had a hundred times when I look at meat and think about what it is.
