I'm going to this vegan restaurant over the weekend with a friend of mine. I've never eaten there so I'm pretty stoked about it. I tryed going to it once before, but the place was packed and closing soon after, so we ended up going to Moxies where 95% of the menu is meat, lol.

although its on a comedic site, still is completely accurate so it goes out to all you vegans out there. Also to a couple people a few pages back saying "not all vegetarians and vegans are pompous hippies" true, however many are and its simply because so many choose the lifestyle based on morals, therefore if you dont follow their particular morals then they deem you a bad person therefore are a douche to you. That fact transcends food, if you are against abortion, i bet at least on the topic of abortion you will hate someone who is all for it. And to some people even further back, do your research on raw foods, nothing except meat contains several of the essential amino acids required to build muscle well simply because of anatomy. Plants and grains do not require a musculature, therefore they dont have the substances used to create muscle. And people please stop answering these types of arguments with "well they have protien" because that is pointless without amino acid chains. Think of protein as a brick when its muscle, AA's are the mortar holding it together, and is required to form lean sturdy muscle mass. And vegan body builders? Sure i imagine there are a few but please enlighten me as to when one of them last won mr olympia or mr universe? Some people are genetically predisposed to being able to pack on muscle like crazy and im willing to bet those few vegan body builders are part of the group. That, or they spend way more money than they should on suppliments to balance their diet. All im saying is for a physique at all above just your run of the mill person, vegan dont cut it. end of story.

I ended up going yesterday instead, and I don't think I'd go back again. The servers were very nice when they came around, but that wasen't often enough. Also, what I ordered was a complete mess. It was hard to eat, greasy and it kept falling apart on me. Plus, I ordered us two drinks and it cost me $25. Like holy shit.

my mom's a vegetarian turned vegan, so i've been eating a lot of the same food for the most part, and have any of you ever had edward and son's miso cups? they're vegan and gluten free, and the back of the box recommended sprinkling the powder on avocado slices or mashed avocado and it's soooooo good

    cucumber and Quinoa.jpg

I'm not a vegetarian but since moving out on my own with my boyfriend I have been eating less and less meat, I am hoping to make the move completely to vegetarian as soon as I have more of an income because my boyfriend would still eat meat and I am in charge of the groceries I can't afford to do that right now. I have been experiementing however, trying to find stuff that we both like that is vegetarian.

I heard about quinoa a while ago and was reading how it is great for people who have cut meat of of their diet and I finally decided to give it a shot the other day. I decided to do my own cucumber and quinoa salad and it was wonderful, it made a lot so there was plenty left over ( although the boyfriend and his friend liked it so much it was gone before I could have any more lol) so I thought I would share it for anyone who is interested.

    What you need:

    - Half a cup of cook quinoa (it pretty well doubles in size when cooked, so only do about half a cup)
    - Cucumbers ( 4 or 5 mini ones or a whole one)
    - A green pepper
    - Half a package of grape tomatos
    - A can of chicked peas
    - Around 100 grams of greek feta ( though this is optional)
    - Half a lemon (juice)
    - A little bit of thyme
    - Some green onion, one or two is plenty
    - Vegetable broth ( a cup)
    - sundried tomato & basil dressing ( a couple of teaspoons)

    What you do:

    1. Cook the quinoa in the vegetable broth- rinse the quinoa then boil in a pot. 2 parts liquid to 1 part quinoa, you may use water if you don't have the broth ( I didn't have it on hand so I used water but I think it'd be better with the broth). Just fluff it with a fork when it's done ( you'll know its done because it will have absorbed all the liquid). Then set it aside to cool.

    2. Cut the cucumber ( wash it then slice it in half length wise) use a spoon to scrape out the seeds or the salad will get too watery. Then cut into bite size pieces

    3. Cut the tomatos in half and remove the seeds as well, combine with the cucmber in a large bowl.

    4. wash and cut the pepper into tiny pieces and combine with cucumber and tomatos

    5. Cut the green oinion and add to mixture

    6. crumble the greek feta and add to large bowl

    7. add thyme

    8. drain chicked peas and add to the large bowl

    9. Cut lemon in half and squeeze juice into bowl ( make sure lemon in cut side up in your hand so that the seeds don't come out) mix the salad up.

    10. Add the cooled quinoa and sundried tomato & basil dressing and mix it up one last time

    11. Eat and enjoy! ( it does make quite a bit, good for feeding a family as a side)

    I've found bliss in ignorance.

I've been a vegetarian for....well honestly I don't know how long. When I was little my parents would force me to eat meat even though I always told them it made me feel sick. Of course, they just thought I was a typical kid who didn't want to eat. However, one day I was forced to eat a hamburger that had quite a bit of pink. I got really sick. Worse than I usually did. This time my parents actually noticed I was physically sick. They took me to the doctor thinking it was bad food poisoning. It actually ended up being my body rejecting the meat. We found out I have digestive problems and I can't properly digest meat. Which explains the sick feeling and flu like symptoms I would always get. Now, I don't eat it! and I feel a lot better.
    I love to eat:
Black beans (black bean burritos with cream cheese and jalapenos...mmmmm)
    Greek yogurt
    Peanut butter.....by the spoonful
Black bean burgers (not if they have corn in them)
    Salads
    Any Italian dish
    Oh, and dark chocolate(:
