I guess I feel like an idiot cuz that is what I believe:P
but I think the big band theory is a load of crap
ex . if you take a wrist watch apart and smash it together, no lets say they find a way to smash stuff together at unthinkable speeds, you think id the do that, then that wrist watch is going to start working and the alarm going to go off on the same time every day and just perfectly for no reason what so ever just BE

Well blaming him for not being relevant to the thread is also NOT relevant to the thread,
this thread is for theories whether they are true or not about SCIENCE, not a thread for accusing people so why doesn't every one back off and be respectful to each other cuz IK it's going to start bac up today

hmm good debate here although ther is alot of flaming... oh well i guess i'll put in my 2 cents. the evolution theory is interesting but it is a theory because we can't actually totaly prove it (because it happens so slowly) we have seen species change to adjust to the conditions of where they live. so it is kinda obvious there is some kind of evolution. but i don't think using the example of bugs and pestisides is a acurate way to explain it because there is no way to say that it was mutation or evolution.
I find the big bang theory a little spotty when it comes to information to back it up. The idea of energy forming matter without any true and solid guides is a bit shakey. I know there are suposedly experiments that have had energy form somthing but i think that is a little suspicious because whenever anyone says somthing like that there isn't alot that says they actualy did. Even if they did though i supose even that would have to be under very specific circumstances. then to have it form a livable planet with some kind of lifeform on it? highly improbable.
I'm not fully ready to outlaw anything about God or some almighty power. because of that improbability. The idea of some big hidden guy in the sky seems a bit off though. I'm a beliver that there is some kind of higher power made us or if the evolution theory is fully corect whatever came before us/what we started as. what that higher power is exactly I'm not sure.

I always wonder what would qualify as proof of the theory of evolution. As a mathematician, I dislike seeing the word misused, thouh most scientists will be careful to not mistake logical proofs(such as those done in mathematics) with a more relaxed sense of the word. Of course, the average person isn't so careful and so the discussions get messy. We have all the evidence we could possibly want of evolution. The first things that Darwin posited as evidence were just the similarities between living things(an argument no one has trouble with when it is applied to language to conclude that there was a common ancestor language from which all modern languages developed. Unless of course you believe in the tower of babel story.) This has been strengthened by the discovery and mapping of DNA. Now it's not just that things look alike, but we can actually see that their genetic make up is very similar. These two things alone are really all the evidence you possibly could ask that there is a common ancestor to all living things on earth.
Of course, this doesn't satisfy everyone, and certainly it doesn't "prove" anything in the logical sense. The theory of evolution can be restated in terms of allele frequencies in gene pools: "evolution is simplly a change in frequencies of alleles in a gene pool of a population."(anthro.palomar.edu) The British mathematician Hardy proved something called the Hardy-Weinberg principle. This principle gives conditions under which allele frequencies and genotypes would remain constant in a given population. It is an interesting theorem, though the best part is the simple reminder that outside of a laboratory, the conditions needed for constant allele frequencies and genotypes are never satisfied, there are always factors that will make these things change. By the definition of evolution quoted above, this principle implies that in nature evolution is always happening. Now that is much closer to being "proof for evolution" though I imagine it won't satisfy everyone either.

This is a very late reply I know but I couldn't refrain myself from pointing out the fact that Gravity itself is just a 'theory' too. Just throwing it out there. And now I'm going to quote of my idols, Tim Minchin, who is talking about Americans objecting to Evolution.
"And that defense is always “But evolution is only a theory!”. Which is true, I mean, it is a theory. And it’s good, you know, I think that they say that, because it gives you hope, that then maybe they feel the same way about the theory of… gravity… And they might just float the fuck away.”

QUOTE=Xynche;16150476]String theory is pretty dumb. Made me not believe Hawkings anymore when I found out he supported it...
Also, you look like a cooler Jesus... That believes in evaluation... FTW[/QUOTE]
Do you even understand what string theory is?

The big bang describes an event of such cataclysmic proportions it is still sending traceable waves through the universe today. If we look at blue shifts we can identify that the universe is infant moving outward from one point.
