Family guy is an awful show that rips 90% of their jokes from other movies and obscure movie references. And when they do hit a good one, they drag it out way to long.
Futurama is a fairly intelligent show. I get a lot of enjoyment from it.
I also enjoyed The Killing because of how well it was directed.

That's kind of the point.

I understand that but I still see a problem when Family Guy basically takes a scene from Back to the Future or some other old movie and simply recreates it shot-for-shot but with Family Guy characters. It's lazy and unfunny. A lot of tenants of Family Guy are lazy and unfunny, but there are a lot of funny parts, so it's just decent to me.

I have come to enjoy American Dad a lot more for that very reason. Family Guy's 'cutaways' are reminiscent of sketch comedy, which is fun in a silly sort of way but lacks genuine humor based on fleshed-out characters within the context of a storyline.

Then again, these really are just cartoons...
