My Grandfather served in Vietnam with the 8th working with heavy weapons I believe. Forgive me for not knowing the correct termnology but he was in charge of the Mortar teams and has seen plenty of action and has told me several of he's experiences being up close and personal with charlie.

Now you tell him the Americans won the war because he sure has hell does not believe that.

technically there was never a declaration of war, but besides that because i know that people will disagree, our army didn't lose the "war" our politicians lost the "war". idk if people on this have said it but i hate when people dont respect the people who served.

you are 100% right. If the politicians had just let the military do its job and not tied their hand, it would have been a much different war, and many young Americans would not have died.

My grandfather was a sergeant (Australia Army) when he was sent to Vietnam and him and alot more Vietnam vets will say that the American's were taking on themselves, as it was a time of racial tensions, drugs, very little discipline etc... I can't go by my views as I didn't serve in Vietnam but some (most) US Soldiers were very undisciplined during combat for example would light a cigarette at night giving away there position etc. I'm not saying it was the US only my grandfather also told me that 2 guys from his platoon switched there water with rum and got wasted and so dehydrated that they had to be carried back to base... that night the unit beat the living shit out of them for fucking up so yeah it was a very different war then another other encountered by allied forces as the draft was mostly teenagers who would get high and had little or no discipline. My opinion no one won both lost many soldiers.

The US did not, physically lost any single battle. However, the Tet offensive in 1968 prove to be a psychological defeat for the Americans. I guess that is when the U.S decided that they had lost Vietnam, since they are psychologically defeated by the war.

We just don't have the balls we did in WW2 anymore. But, I work with a lot of Vietnam vets, and the draftees are usually very bitter about. A lot of them don't exactly believe we "lost." It was just a lost cause. I mean, we lost a lot of men, and we killed a lot of them, yes, but we never REALLY accomplished anything but killing them.:/ The volenteers don't exactly say we won, just that we kicked ass,ha. I don't know. It's just sad.

Lol, how the hell could America have lost vietnam? Are you on crack?
They obliterated the nation a new a-hole.

    I find it quite funny.

But it's not funny knowing that america killed many innocent people in that war, and induced fear and terror into the people. They have never been the same. psssht

I would never be proud of America if I was american.

*waits for dicky americans to come and try convince me the war was just*

Now I really laugh, what a joke it all is.

Methinks you should go try reading some Clausewitz. I'm not even going to touch most of the blatant out and out inaccuracies you typed up in there.

My view on the Vietnam War? Americans didn't win. They didn't go back. They pulled their forces out of Vietnam, and left the South Vietnamese even when the treaty was broken.
I thought Russia's population peaked during the war at around 112million while Germany's around 72million.
