"4 cylinders are capable to make the same power and go just as fast."
Thats about the most stupid comment ive ever read on this BBS. An auspicious occasion given that the TS automotive section seems to be a magnet for idiots.
My car is a heck of a lot lighter than the average honda. Its a lot smaller too. Its also powered by a 3.5 litre Rover V8. 6 cylinders is the bare minimum for anything remotely useful. Although, given the choice, I would take a straight 6 over an 8 cylinder for smoothness.
Anyway... A large understressed engine is always going to be better long term than an over stressed whizzy hair-dryer.

wow you really are narrow minded. I am not saying an I4 is the end solution to all, not by any means. I am well aware of the power capabilities of a larger motor, as well as a smaller motor.

Better long term for what? Reliability?Power? You can't make such sweeping statements without qualifying them.
What sort of power is your Rover V8 making. Has your car been down the quarter mile? What times is it running?
Your right there is alot of BS on this forum. But to say that a minimum of 6 cylinders is required for anything useful (for what you haven't said) is as rediculous as the statement you quoted.

My SBC will have more power and torque and be more reliable than any 4 cylinder possible even six.

2JZ = RWD Toyota Engine
CRX = FWD Honda Hatchback
A 2JZ is too long to fit into the engine bay of a Honda CRX, much less with a transission behind it.
Edit: on another note higher-displacement enginers ALWAYS have more "power potential" than a similar engine of lesser displacement. Keep in mind when you add Turbo and Superchargers while you are increasing the volume of air the engine is intaking, and thusly the volumetric efficency of said engine, you're also increasing thr displacement of the system. So a 1800cc engine with another 2.3L worth of turbo strapped to it, does not necessarily still qualify as "only" 1800cc's.

[quote=gundie]humm a well done crx would rape your truck, Stock there weak but the potential is huge.
yeah thats true and i ment to say they think its a 4cyl not 2
but most people with crxs or other cars in my town think its badass when its stock and dont do anything and still race

im just going by what i saw and the dyno sheet. I can tell you... It HAD a 2JZ in it and it moved. Yah it sounds stupid but someone felt the need to spend X number of dollars. And its not liek i would screw a CRX up for any other car, it was a CRX with a JZ

Once you replace the engine I personally don't really think it counts as the same car. I mean, if you take all the hardware from a PS3 and put it in an Apple II, that doesn't mean the Apple II has potential for that kinda graphics, that means you have the shell of an Apple II on a PS3, just like that was the shell of a Geo Metro on a Buick GNX.

Well, if you think like that, if you stroke a motor, such as a 351C to a 393, then do you think its no longer the same car as well? Since it would just be a 351C shell with 393 inside?
It is still the same car because the chassis is the same and the wheelbase are the same.

"What sort of power is your Rover V8 making. Has your car been down the quarter mile? What times is it running?"
A shade over 150bhp at the moment. However it needs a rebuild IMHO.
Its in the mid to high 13's on the track. Although with little more than stage 2 heads a chevrolet gearbox and 150 shot of gas my friend with another factory V8 gets into the 11 second bracket.
4 cylinder engines are indeed a waste of time. I have just bought a BGT with a 4 pot. I thought there was something wrong with it when I first drove it. Wheres the torque? Your using it all Jon. Am i? Bugger.
Fortunately I happen to have a stage 2 engine that will drop in. 100hp / tonne is a bit better than 75.

JC's right about his V-8 in the 1/4.
It is much easier to have a quick V-8 than it is to have a quick 4cyl.

Heres the V8 dragster doing some gentle runs last year after the engine rebuild.
Didnt even clean the tyres in the burn out area and still got a much quicker time than the jap-crap in the far lane.
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...2f01e7e92f.htm
Perry told me that the asian bloke driving the jap thing was taking the piss out of his car in the fire up lane. Apparently he was disapointed that he would be up against a "slow old banger" whatever sunshine.
His responce was "it does ok against some of the hot hatches" .... modesty is a wonderful thing.

a true Japanese sports car doesnt sound like one. thats people who think they have a super cool cav or sunfire. No Honda is not a true japanese sports car either, there is only a select few I think.
EDIT: i bet if some of the U.S. car supporters tryed driving a GTR, Supra or RX-7 you would be very surprised.
