Default nonconformists... a rant.

i hate when you ask a "punk" or "goth" why they dress the way they do.... and it's cause they want to "not conform and to have a unique style."

not conforming just for the sake of not conforming IS conforming. you're not being different, and you just wanna cause a scene from your "individuality".

it's annoying as fuck. it's so overdone that even avril doesn't dress punk anymore. you're not unique, making a statement, or being a nonconformist. i think nonconformists are even more alike than all of us "preppy conformists" or "ghetto conformists" or whatever you would label us. oh wait? you dont believe in labels.

kinda hypocritical to me considering you would label a girl/guy (who i might as is probably wearing the same converses and dickies as you are) a poser.

Though I don't dress the way I do to be a non-conformist. I can see why people would think its is though. Because how many magazines have you seen with a pair of shitty destroyed plaid pants with 70's punk bands written all over them do you see? Not many. Whether you are a conformist or not is a state of mind. Not it what you wear.

I dress the way I do because I like the way it looks. Just like you like they way your Lacoste and Ambercrombie and Fitch looks. And some people say "how can you like that. It's ugly" It's my personal taste and I like it. I don't care if it scares little children or makes cops follow me. That goes back to the punk belief "fuck everyone else do what you want" that's why I guess dressing punk is punk. But some people don't even like the way it looks and dressing it strictly to fit the "punk uniform" that's stupid to me.

I am kind of getting off topic I guess. But yeah a lot of people have pretty stupid reasons they dress the way I do. I have gotten many answers.

"Because I want to be different from everyone else"
"Because I am too depressed to wear pink"
"Because I want attention"
"Because I want to rebel"

those are all dumb to me.

Well I see your point, but this has been said I don't know HOW many times in the course of time, so there's really no point in saying it, it's been said and done

Do you know an actual PUNK?

They dress the way they do for self-expression, not non-conformity.

And, yes, they ARE expressing themselves. They design their own clothes for Pete's sake.

A true punk wouldn't gallavant all over the place claiming to be a 'hardcore non-conformist punk rawker', they'd let it come through in thier beliefs and attitudes, and music they listen to, and the way they express themselves, which doesn't include dressing like they're a wannabe Blink-182 member.

I have friends who are totally original and call themselves punk or goth. Becaus they have their own unique style, sure.
But the people who all shop at the same store and call themselves original... how is that being yourself?

What? Are we soup cans now?

People don't need labels like, punk or goth.

i agree with the whole thing about people saying that they're non conformist but im sorry to say that when there's a groups of people doing the same thing they are conforming to be non-conformists...and i always wondered why people r so quick to tell someone else that what they're doing is fake and that they're posers when they're doing the rxact same thing. We should all just be friends...

I agree! I don't think you know any real punks or goths...we don't dress this way to be non-conformists...we just like the style...we are expressing our selves. It is people like you who label us and make us all seem like we are trying to be non-conformists. So talk to some real non-conformists and you will notice that they are not all punks or goths. They could be anyone...

No matter how hard you try you will always be conforming to something. So stop giving a fuck about being a nonconformist and go do something interesting with your life.
