Lets assume hypothetically that the statement made in the article of the OP is true. Lets also say that a method exists to prove this. Would this study ever be allowed to be performed? If it was, would the results not be censored?

It depends on how you look at it - women were repressed in the past, stuck in their housewife roles so it would generally make sense for women who now have the option to take on more important roles to do so - however, it is mainly die-hard feminists who do so. Otherwise, most women don't really want to do anything but take care of the kids and sit on their front porch gossiping. Women back then were actually intent on having careers - they wanted what they couldn't have. Now, the fact women have the option they no longer utilize it. Taking things for granted, you know. Bottom line: In this generation, it's more likely women aren't so focused on having careers.
The same goes for men. After ages of having the ability to do so, the charm has weakened. Not to mention, most men only do their jobs just because they have to. There is no longer any pride in their work.
I'd say it's about even, give or take.

Show a man what he expects to see, and he will never look beneath the surface.

What is the point of this thread? The article's from freakin' 1955. Yes, sexism was rampant back then.
Surely nobody thinks this is actually true.

For the last time, it was revisited by Naffine in 1987.

Wow. 1955. Well, maybe then, but not now. Males and females have active goals, along the same lines. This book is outdated, and the lack of proof surrounding his hypothosis leads me to the conclusion that he was probably gay and just wanted an excuse for not liking many women, and none on a level of "more than a friend."

UM what? Turns out in NZ more boys drop out of school then girls and atm girls are passing the end year examinations by far!!
Boys are slack these days, they don't need to worry about bringing the bacon home as in 1955 coz women are so ambitious and often make more money then men. So ha.

I came in this thread specifically because I saw that she was the most recent poster.
It did not disappoint.

An unsupported Sexism Theory. It was a boring read.
Thanks.

Pfft, in this day and age? I think not.
They need to redo that study, then get back to us.

I agree tbh. All the girls I know just want to find a guy to marry and have some kids, all the boys I want to do much more than that.
