I thought it was a sport, not a location.

how do you not know the positions of stunting when you call yourself a cheerleader? thats one of the first things we learned when i started cheer was what everything was called. then again i was on an all-star squad

cheer competitions are basically a gathering of cheer squads who have prepared for months prior to perform in front of a panel of judges and they pick the best team. that's how you win in cheerleading. basically the story line of bring it on 1, 2, and 4.

it's more about the futility of social cliques and high school drama.
i don't think there was a competition in that one.
i haven't seen it in years, though. =\\
as for cheerleading.. yeah, it's a sport. but what's important i think is to point out the difference between "crowd arousal" cheerleaders at like football and basketball games, and All-Star cheerleading. the first being a bunch of ditzy skanks in microskirts, and the second being a legit competition that involves gymnastics and group coordination
that's just my opinion anyways

Yeah, I don't consider activities that have the outcome primarily determined by judges to be a sport.

in 3 it's the dance competition for a music video, not a real cheer competition.

And i've been on both ends of the spectrum of cheerleading i spent 4 years on an all-star squad and 4 years on my high schools basketball, soccer and football cheerleaders, with a random football season that i coached grade schoollers for them to cheer at game. I don't understand why people see non-competing squads as ditzy or skanks, I mean most of our cheerleaders were in committed relationships and stuck to them. And for the ditzy part, my school cheerleading squad had the highest gpa out of any school recognized sports team.

see not all sports have to competitive. cheerleaders so as much work as other "sports". we run, we workout, we lift people(not weights), we have to have endurance, and muscles.

Just because it's tough doesn't make it a sport. Rock climbing is hard, and that's not a sport.
Here's the rule: If you need to defend your activity as a sport, then it's not a sport. So cheerleaders, GTFO.

Cheerleading is freaking hard though,
Once I knew I didn't make varsity, I quit.
All the hot chicks were on varsity. :/

Competitive cheerleading = sport
Girls in short skirts shouting on the sideline = not a sport
