Question men's winter shoes

hi, i'm looking for shoes for this winter. i'm a guy who wears skinny jeans, plaid, oxfords, and cardigans. i do not dye my hair black or have my lip pierced, so please don't suggestion that i get some shitty Vans with skulls on the toes.

right now i'm leaning towards desert boots (http://images.google.com/images?clie...&hl=en&tab=wi), but probably something with a lower top. (fixed link)

any suggestions, fashionistas?

Budget?
I use another Fashion-type message board and the guys on there are always raving about Red Wings. I like the Desert Boot, too, but it really depends what type of weather you're going to be wearing them in and how frequently. Frye is another great choice for lasting quality. Also, check out the JCrew website, they have a ton of great picks.

i'm looking to spend less than $100. i'm shooting for somewhere between $50 and $80

the type of weather? haha. well, in Edmonton, it can get as low as -40 but it's usually around -20°C (-5°F). i'll be pretty much wearing them all the time. i tend to get stuck on a single pair at a time. a lot of these stores are no good for me because i'm in Canada and they just don't exist here. i was looking for a specific style that people could share. so when i wander the shops, i'll at least have something to go on.

beckith, those shoes are pretty good. they have too much lace, though. and it's a little more than i'm willing to spend. everyone else: thanks for the suggestions, but i'm not really digging those

i hate desert boots.

what about hunting down a regular pair of laceups with a lug sole? that way you could just keep your same style goin' on.

im in love with this pair of ermenegildo zegna's in my latest gq that are so gorgeous. (but $745, geesh ) then i wake up and realize a) there is no winter here and b) the price.

I personally suggest propper boots. They are durable and weather proof. I highly reccommend looking at things like Underground boots are you can get some nice ones be it if you want something that stands out or something more plain. Not only do they look good they are practical. I'm a man who lives in boots and you nearly never see me not in my Undergrounds. They are affordable and sturdy.
