Sorry that this isn't a poem, if thats what you were expecting. I just wanted to say, that I think it is such a pity that all anyone can write about is pain, suffering, sorrow, and hurt. You all have really great talent, and it's wonderful that you can express yourselves so wonderfully and beautifully, but you could try to write more about good things, little beautiful things, that no one else pays attention to. Make people see the wonder and beauty in the world, not just the hurt and suffering. Sure we all go through that, but there are good times too! Does anyone agree with me on this, or am I just really off on a limb?:(

The answer you will receive will go a little something like this...
'But it's so much easier writing about pain/suffering/sorrow/hurt. It just comes more naturally, y'know...?'

A lot of my poems are upbeat :) I like to write about romance and hope, honestly.

I suppose. But why not write like the great writers? Frost doesn't write about death and sorrow, he writes about nature, and aspirations.

Frost isn't a teenager.

No, you're right he isn't. However, what constitutes that all teenager poets can't write like him instead of always about how they want to die, or unrequited love, or how people are so mean. It just doesn't give off a good vibe of teens. Like we all are these morbid things, and all we think about is how much life is unfair. I mean, don't take me the wrong way or anyhting, I can be like that too, but everyone has good moments, and it makes sense to me that you wouldn't want to always focus your expressions and the bad things in life, sometimes you should focus on what's going right.

However, I could be crazy. :nuclear:

I'm not saying to nt write what you feel. I'm just stating that teens only write about their feelings when they feel bad, which is fine, but it would be nice to see some more not-so-morbid-and-depressing work.

Well see, writing is all about expressing who you are and what you feel. It's like therapy. So many teens (including myself, sometimes) get relief by writing poetry about their sorrows or frustrations.
However, there are many teenagers (myself included) who also indulge in happy feelings or memories in their writing, too.

I write how I feel...I rarely feel happy therefore I rarely right happy stuff. If I were to try to write something "upbeat" or whatever when I wasn't in an "upbeat" mood then it would turn out crappier than the stuff I write already...

I don't know. I guess there are just too many angst ridden teens...

My happy poems aren't very good. So I don't write as many. Nothing more complex than that.

I guess that makes sense.:nuclear:

Any happy, upbeat poem i've ever tried to write turns out worse than the poems i'm able to write now, so weather i'm so happy i'm over the moon or down in the dumps, i still find it much easier to write about sorrow, pain ect ect............. But i totally get what you mean, it would be so nice to read some happy stuff and better yet be able to write happy stuff, but we all express ourselfs in different ways and i think that is the beauty of poetry......

I'm glad that you understand what I'm saying. And you're right, people do express themselves in different ways. I'm glad that people here at TS can escape through their poetry. Thanks for understanding. ;)
i dont think that these boards are exactly flooded with depression. in fact, most of us tend to go through our own little cycles of how were feeling and how are poems are written.
there are a few exceptions, but if you read a few of one person's poems in a row (like, hunt for em)...you can usually get a pretty varied amount of work.

i dont like how u are categorizing teens to be "angst" and "sad" because yes, i myself am clinically depressed and sometimes even suicidal. Why? because of the opinions of others. i write happy when im happy. But if im not? i write what im feeling otherwise. i write truth and pain to make others aware of what they do. its like my way of telling everyone how much they can hurt people. how much words can kill.

i dont get why you dislike being categorized so much, if you basically are just agreeing with it. amer isnt atacking you or anything, just commenting on the situation.
and on a more personal note: you shouldnt let what others say effect you so much...youre just causing yourself undo pain and stress.

Thanks smurf.
And I really am not trying to categorize you to make you feel bad, and I'm really sorry that you took it that way. I myself am Bi-polar, and I am in no way trying to make you stop expressing yourself through poetry. I think that it is important to get out emotions like that. It seems as though you feel I'm out to get people who are sad and depressed, when that is not what I am aiming for. I'm saying, that when I'm depressed about something, sometimes is nicer to read something that isn't so depressing. Don't take anything I say in the wrong way, because I know what it feels like to be depressed. We have all had our share of problems, and I understand that people let their emotions run through their poetry, and thats great. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. I'm sorry you took what I said that wrong way.
