Okay, so, is it just me.. Or is Coraline an EXTREMELY dark movie for it to be aimed at younger audiences in such a manner? Not that I'm necessarily complaining -- but I just thought it kind of funny.
I, personally, loved it. But there were a few families walking out because it either scared their kids, or it offended them.. I guess?

I haven't seen it yet but I have heard that a lot, I read the book and it was dark as well. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I thought it was going to be a kiddie version so I didn't see it in theaters, now everyone I talk to has said they loved it.

Yeah, I loved it as well. I just thought some of the themes and such were extremely dark, and I couldn't help but look at my friend with a confused look. xD

I didn't know it was until my friend told me in the middle of the movie. Is the book good, though?

No, it's not just you. That movie would of scared me 10 years ago.

It really was quite dark for a "kid's" movie. The thing is, most of the "kid's" movies these days have adult thematic elements to them to keep both kids and the adults accompanying them, entertained. They reach a wider audience that way.

^ But then you didn't get the trippy 3D effects! Imagine watching those while high, you'd probably freak out for weeks. ;)

The Wizard of Oz is pretty darn scary, I still refuse to watch Return to Oz, that really was screwed up. And Alice in Wonderland. There are a whole bunch of slightly messed up childrens books/movies. All the fairytales used to be really scary, until Disney came along.
But it says on the trailers and posters its pretty scary/dark, so you shouldn't be taking wimpy small children to it, if you're going to leave.

I really like Neil Gaiman though.

Haven't seen it yet though, so I can't make too much of a judgement on it. Saving up to go watch it in 3D.
Which is quite far away....

omfg! that is so true. But i prefer fairytales and stories to have a slightly more gothic/dark feel to them. Its better to everything ALWAYS being sugar-candy happy.

on the subject of Coraline, i am desperate to see it. Heard that it was being movie-fied a few years ago, but I never really heard much more about it. But i do mean to check it out, most likely online.

Wasn't it a Tim Burton film? I didn't see anything wrong with it. Sure, it was a little dark and a little creepy, but that's why it being 3-D was so kickass.

It made me feel like less of a loser going to see it.

I just watched it online... It was good but not as good as I had anticipated. I think after hearing such good things I had too high of expectations.

Of course it's going to be dark & scary.

Everyone assumes Tim Burton directed Nightmare before xmas. But he didn't, he wrote it.
So they put 'FROM THE DIRECTOR OF Nightmare before xmas!?1!!' on all the posters, so everyone assumes Burton did it, seeing as he's scene kid director of the moment.
Few people have heard of Henry Selick.

And slightly changing the topic. I'm interested in Alice and Wonderland too. Its one of my favourite stories, it'll probably be overblown though... I think I'm looking forward to Phantasmagoria much more, if they ever film the darn thing...

And Neil Gaiman is officially dating one of my favourite performer/musicians. I think I'm jealous on both counts. I want that book...

Thank you. Next person to try and claim that shit was going to get a rant.

Also, Gaiman is dating the Dresden Dolls bitch? Goddamn, is there anything bad about his life?

Yeah, I was too lazy to rant.
But go ahead.

Apparently not...
Darn them. In a nice-but-slightly-jealous way?
Wish my life was that happy.
Their happiness keeps filling up the twitter box I have on my internet homepage...

Yeah, just to put it out there, deffffinitely don't feel lesser because I thought Tim Burton directed it.
Shit looks exactly LIKE Nightmare Before Christmas, and his name has always been before the goddamned title.

If I ever stop having a life, I'll try and investigate these things more thorougly next time before making such an outrageous and offensive accusation.
