The new show from MTV (http://www.mtv.com/ontv/dyn/16_and_pregnant/series.jhtml). Let's discuss this!

Do you think it is a good idea for a show? A pure shit idea? Or do you want me to just shut the fuck up about reality shows on here?

I think it is a horrible idea for a show. Oh hey look that girl is 16, pregnant, and trashy lets put her on MTV! It is like MTV is trying to promote getting pregnant young. And we all know how much influence MTV has over need to fit in preteens/teens.

I just hope it doesn't send the wrong message to kids.

For the teen moms/soon to be teen moms it is a good idea for a show for them to watch but in general I don't think it is a good idea. People will watch and the people obsessed with MTV will be like 'I CAN GET ON MTV IF I GET KNOCKED UP AT 16' then we just got more idiots reproducing.

Yes but I think MTV is going to make sure that it's not glamorous.

It's more like
"Oh shit, I'm pregnant, but it's ok, maybe I can get on MTV if I keep a baby I can't support instead of getting an abortion"

Atleast the girls are most likely getting paid per episode. Hopefully that money will help them out with the expenses of raising a child.

And MTV isn't going to be showing happy teenage couples having a baby and living happily ever after, worry free. Mostly because that wont get ratings. It's gonna be drama-packed with unsupportive families, whining about lack of social life and tears over the father of the babies never being around. Which certainly wont encourage kids to run out and have babies.

I may watch it, I may not.
Either way it's not going to be sugar coated; which is good.
Maybe it will prevent more teen pregnancies, if they show the actuality of the situation.

I guarantee it'll have a happy ending and depict the pregnant teens as good guys. If they showed them for the idiots they were for not getting abortions or putting them up for adoption at the very least, I might actually not think it's AS entirely crappy as all of MTV's other shows except for a couple exceptions (Scarred and Jackass being a couple of them, but their on too damn late)

I guess you could take it in different ways, but it allows teens that are already pregnant to connect, make them feel like they aren't so 'alone' and if it's sending out the right message it could be beneficial to show teens if they don't have proper protection they're life can get a whole lot harder.

Agreed.
I honestly don't think a show like this will encourage teens to go out and get pregnant.
Like most of the "True Life" shows on MTV I think it will just be informative and show teens what could happen to them. More than likely it's show teen moms getting shit for being pregnant at such a young age and will convince other young girls that it's the life they definitely don't want.

I thought they portrayed it fairly realistically. It definitely wasn't glamorous but it showed exactly how it goes. Even though you've had a baby you're still a teenager and you want to do teenage things but you can't. Her fiance was sort of a dick but the thing is he was a teenage boy, he worked all day and I'm sure at the end of the day after working for hours at a shitty jobb you'd want to go and have fun too. He didn't have a problem with taking care of the baby he just didn't want to deal with her and that's what happens.

The moral of that particular show was obviously that a baby doesn't strengthen a relationship like most stupid girls think. More often than not it rips the relationship apart.

I felt bad for the guy. He was there for her, he was sticking around giving the mother of his child and his child a place to stay, went to doctor's appointments with her. She made it out like he did nothing. Bitching about the hours he worked, seriously that got on my nerves.

She just missed him and was probably nervous about being alone all night with the baby. He wasn't being an equal partner in the raising of their child, which seems to be what she expected... but with someone so uninterested in her and in being a father... I think that is about the best she could have hoped for. Hopefully, he will grow up eventually.

She wasn't working, he was. He provided her with a place to stay and supported her. I think he was interested in being a father, remember we have to take editing into account and what was shown and what wasn't shown. He said when it was just him and the baby he was fine, but when he was with her that's when he had issues. I think it was more so that she was jealous that he had more time to go out and have free time and she didn't. They both weren't ready for a baby. I guess they just had their own way with dealing with the stress of having a newborn. He dealt with it by going out and she dealt with it by dancing. And when she couldn't dance she basically had nothing and she took it out on him.

I just watched the one with the cheerleader... I can't even believe how self absorbed that girl is. She was more concerned with how looked than how her pregnancy was going. She isn't gonna breast feed just because she's scared it will make her boobs sag? Even when the doctor told her all the benefits of breast feeding she was still more worried about her appearance then the baby's health.

And the whole scene where she cried because her mom wont buy her a car? Really?!

She wasn't "jealous" so much as rightfully upset. If my husband went out with his buddies after work instead of coming home to his family (on a regular basis, mind you) I would be equally as upset. To say she wasn't working is an insult to every mother out there, and you must realize that just because a job does not pay, does not mean it is not work. Besides being a full time mother and full time student, she was a part time employee for her father. Mother, student, and worker... that is three jobs. Her decision not to dance was a decision in the financial interest of her family. I can't help but defend her... not that i feel she is completely without fault, but he was behaving very immaturely.

I think they should have told the dad earlier on, rather then him finding out through the grapevine. But I was under the impression they felt he was dangerous. There were frequent talks about what the girl was to do if he showed up where she was or and not to answer his phone calls. She even had to get a new number. It seemed as though he was either an abusive boyfriend or they were worried he was on that path.

I loved how the morning after the delivery when her friends came in and she covered her face saying "oh my god I look so bad." No shit, you just popped a baby out of you.

Also the "Sorry for the crotch shot" comment to the doctor while he was delivering the baby. Real mature.

That or she's a stupid bitter teenager. It doesn't matter how he treats her, she's going to be fucked when he takes her to court unless he was abusive physically to the mother. If a man was emotionally abusive to me I'd give him a chance to be around the baby, but I'd be there with them- then if he fucked up he'd never see the baby again and I'd take him to court for child support (which I'm sure she will try to do).

She should give him a chance, that's his kid and men act differently to their kids then their wives usually in that situation (of course not always).

They both participated in accelerated education programs to help them graduate early... Maci at an accelerate high school, and Farrah at a community college I believe. I have had several friends graduate at 16 by doing this. It is not easy, but it shows motivation and a good attitude towards education... at least on Maci's part... I'm unclear as to whether or not Farrah graduated yet.... or will graduate.

I think that it's something that needs to be seen. there are so many teen girls out there who want babies and think that being pregnant is cute. But, they don't realize how hard it is to take care of a child. The show shows that it's not easy, and all of your relationships, be it a friendship, a relationship with a parent, or a boyfriend/girlfriend thing, are affected. It's not something simple that you can just change your mind about. Once it's done, it's done. The show shows that.
The week before last week, there was this one girl that named her daughter Sophia. She was so retarded. She was such a brat. She like told her mom to shut up and shit. But her mom had issues too. Then she wouldn't tell the father about the baby for like, forever, and didn't him to be in her life. Don't these girls realize that when they do that, they're only hurting their child? It's important for a child to know their father. Hopefully, little Sophia grows up to be a better person than her mom was.

I've only seen 2 episodes. I saw the first episode and it was interesting. I thought it funny how the girl was wearing all her makeup and she wasn't even sweating during labor. She looked amazing while she gave birth! Good for her I guess lol. anyway, i think it is a good idea to have a show like this because it can show teens what can happen when you don't have safe sex. It presents them with the reality of the matter. On the other hand, I almost get this vibe, like just by hearing 16 and Pregnant, that it's glamorized. I mean i know it's really not, but it just seems like hey you got knocked up at 16--your reward is to be on mtv! it just feels like they're rewarding that behavior or something. i don't know. that's just the vibe that i'm getting.

Wow, one of the most moronic statements I've heard on here lately. I can't tell if you're being serious or not. Teenagers get knocked up because sex is enjoyable, and most don't think about the consequences or think their completely safe from just a condom (the ones that actually use them.)

For christ sakes there's only a select few that even think "I want to get knocked up" for any reason. It's normally accidental and if you think otherwise you must be out of touch with reality.

Yes, one of the worst shows I have ever seen. The acting is just terribly corny, the script is poorly written, not to mention it seems like an infomercial for "Save your self with god".

"OMG LIFE IS SO HARD NOW THAT I'M A TEENAGE MOTHER, I HAVE NO FREEDOM.. I can't join the Airforce.. I can't graduate high school...".. blah blah blah.

No shit, bitch.

When I watch this show I get pissed off how dumb the mom, and dad is. The girl with her brother in Iraq totally pissed me off, she couldn't even stay there with her kid to watch some little nose camera go in her kid but that was kind of crazy, she should of asked for something else, like an X-ray?

And these dads, wtf? Why can't they just be smart for once and help their girlfriend/whatever but it goes to prove that women mature faster then men however in some cases the girls are not even mature... I think this show have made me relized that I could do a better job then some other teenagers, and if my boyfriend or whatever was doing the same kind of crap with those girls, I would so fucking dump him, or hit him.

That's the thing with these girls today, they think it's all love, and shit but the guys just fuck them and want to get it over with but their too dumb to relize that. I'm shocked that a man/boy doesn't know how to use a FUCKING condem, could soneone please tell me how the fuck could a condem break those things are not suppose to break. These kids do not know anything about sex nor their bodies, if you don't know how to use a condom then you should go learn if not then don't fucking have sex, I think everyone makes sex overrated in someways and that's why some are doing it cause I guess? they think if other people are doing it then they should too, and it'll feel good cause they think they know how but when they get in there, it's not so good and boring. I know I'm just going on, I'm sorry but I think kids should wait to have sex at 18 or 21 cause it's getting too crazy out there.

^ Condom* J/K :pink: Otherwise I agree. Except about waiting until 18-21 to have sex. I had sex when I was their age, so that would be hypocritical of me.

The latest episode was just wow. White trash much? Seriously, their parents got married, they became step siblings, then they get knocked up. I don't think I'd ever lol'd so much at that show as I did then. What they did with the kid was great though, they realized they couldn't take care of it and I think they found a great family for the kid. It was nice to see they can be involved in the child's life still.

Whoa, I missed the first half of the show- they were step siblings?!? Thank god they gave it up for adoption, not only would she of had young parents she would be constantly made fun of for having parents who were related.

I dont want to see that. Teen age pregnancy is sad and I wouldnt watch it. I guess its good only if the message is dont make their mistakes, but if its saying its okay to be a preg child so go ahead, then hell no.

:( It's not as bad but its still pretty bad. I'm really surprised the parents got married- did they meet through their kids? Its one thing for their parents to date but to get married and make them siblings is just cruel.

I didn't like Dr.Drew at all during the reunion show.
He seemed to favor some of the parents more than others.
He talked to Maci and Ryan the most, but only because he hated Ryan.
And he made it seem like Catelynn had done such a wonderful job for giving her baby up.
But then he didn't even make the other moms feel good about stepping up and raising their kids.
And he kept repeating the same questions to the same parents over and over again.

And it was SO freaking cute when Leah took Bentley's passy!

I hated Farrah.
That dumb bitch complaining about what kind of car she could and couldn't get, while she was sixteen fucking years old living in her mother's house with a newborn baby?

I woulda slapped that bitch into two weeks from now.
Shoot.

Meh I think it's horrible...Sixteen year olds getting knocked up...what makes them so special that they get a tv show?

Yes, perhaps it will prevent some pregnancies, but what happened to the good tv shows? The ones with taste?

I had to bump this thread..

I just watched 3 episodes of this show and holy fucking shit! it's unbelievable. they're not really glamorizing teen pregnancies, but it's still pretty insane.
I hate Farrah. I dont understand how someone could be that.. self absorbed when they're pregnant. "i dont want to breast feed. it'll make my boobs saggy" or when she gave birth, one of the first things she said was "there's a little gunk on its head, you might wanna take care of that"
that's your fucking baby!
And the one chick was 8months pregnant on a quad! and her boyfriend is a complete ass. yes being a father is difficult but you don't ignore your girlfriend and your baby.
the one with the obese boyfriend wasn't as bad. her family was really judgmental.. the guy wasnt THAT horrible. I thought he was pretty funny.

they were alllll complete trailer trash though.

I remember watching this show one night after a nightmare and I couldn't sleep.

This show made me feel much better and amused me greatly.

Most of those women are annoying though. And the men. It seemed like in every episode the woman bitched about how she was already now a mature adult just because she was popping out a kid and the guy was like "Oh. I'm going to be a father? Oh well."
Part of me was hoping for a miscarriage. But none of them had one.

I was reading the other day they are doing an extension of the shows how the same girls are dealing afterward.
