View Full Version : Your philosophy on clothes that don't fit.

I've read different articles on the subject, and it seems like everyone-even Dr. Phil-has an opinion. I'm at a weird weight for myself and I have some clothes that are way too big now and some that are impossibly small for me to fit into at the moment. Part of me wants to hoard everything-"How can I get rid of these Michael Kors jeans or the Armani shirt?!" and another part wants to sell everything on ebay for lots of cash, which has proven to be successful in the past. My thinking for the larger sizes is "What if I balloon up to that weight again?" and my thinking for the smaller sizes is "Okay, I'll be small enough for that eventually, so shouldn't I just keep it?" But I don't know. What do you guys do with clothes like that, in conjunction with weight fluctuations and such?

I keep larger clothes because I know it's more likely I will put on weight than lose it.

I get rid of most of the stuff that doesn't fit... But I keep a few things that are too big and a few things that are too small, just in case my weight does change that drastically.

A shirt which is slightly too large can be taken down a bit (as long as the shoulders/collar still fits) and should therefore be saved. Smaller clothes should be re-sold or donated.
XD None of us, hopefully, buy any piece of clothing with the idea of keeping it for life. If it's worn, get rid of it!

i've been pretty constant at weight for all my teen years. sometimes they get a little tighter, but soon they go back to normal.
i give things that shrunk in the wash to my cousin, cuz they're nice clothes... and we're about the same size (she's smaller, obvs)
i buy clothes that fit,

I have one box in the back of my closet, that I keep, since I keep thinking I am going to lose weight, which is never happening, apparently. It's small, and there's maybe ten things in it, and they are all clothes that I could wear if I was 10-15lbs smaller, not anything drastic.

i keep everything i have that is small. i have a pair of shorts from 6th grade that have JUST RECENTLY stopped fitting me and ill be damned if i ever get rid of them in my life.

and i don't BUY clothes when i'm fatter, so i have no bigger clothes. i once bought a pair of size 2 jeans and i avoid them like the plague. if im feeling chubby i would rather wear a dress than try on my jeans so i can struggle with the button. nooo thank you.

denial denial denial :cheer:

sometimes i fall in love with pieces of clothing that don't fit me and buy anyway because i need to have them in my life? i either find a way to make it work on me or give it to someone i hang out with so i can be in its presence occasionally.

if it's a small piece i really love then I'll keep it.
if it's a large piece I love I'll find someway to make it look good still.
everything else is customised into a bigger size.

This. I love you for being on the same wavelength as me. :pink: Even if I am in total denial about things that are too big/small.

As for keeping/nixing clothes, people have different psychological views. I think Dr. Phil said throw out your "fat" clothes so you'll mentally think "Well, I can't get up to that weight again because I have nothing to wear" and keep your skinny clothes. The author of The Incredible Shrinking Critic orders you to throw out everything that doesn't fit at that moment & buy clothes as you shrink.

I have a little skirt like that. I think I can fit into it by the end of the summer.

Lol I have my cheer uniform from when I was like 12 and its a bit snug but I keep it. I think thats okay though cuz its not like I ever wear it and its kind of just like a memory thing.

Ive stayed the same size for a long time, sometimes I go up or down 2 or 3 pounds and my clothes will get snugger or a little looser but not enough to put me in a different size.

I would probably keep my favorite clothes though no matter what size I got cuz I love them so much. But I wouldnt keep all, just my favorites.
