View Full Version : Which country has the best fashion...

...in your opinion?

Personally, I love Japanese fashion. Lolita fashion, to be particular; I actually have two Lolita dresses. Talk about expensive taste, though. The ones I got were $159 each and most cost more than that. :crap:

Here's some pictures. Probably too eccentric for most people's tastes, but that's because these are one pieces. The jumperskirts are much simpler.

I knew there'd be a comment like this.

It's based on Victorian/Roccoco era fashion, so of course it's going to look like a bit much.

I'm all for going outside the fashion comfort zone~!

Honestly, Japanese fashion is the only thing that's the least bit interesting, but I still can't help but think "this is some paedo's collection of dresses"

lolita is a book about a pedophile.

Psychodrama
05-31-2009, 05:54 PM
The name of the fashion actually has nothing to do with the book (great book, though). I've been to several panels where people said Japanese people were completely ignorant of the book until someone brought it to their attention that it has the same name as the fashion. A lot of Lolitas are bitter about the similar name because it brings a negative connotation to the fashion and they don't want to be associated with that.

I would only wear those little girl clothes if they were really low cut or showed my ass or something, then it would be funny. But the way they are now looks stupid (to me)

Psychodrama

I can see why people think the last one looks stupid, because I'm not fond of it either, but I find the second one to be especially beautiful.

they make me think of those cheap slutty dresses people wear to "spice up their sex life".

Psychodrama
05-31-2009, 06:13 PM
Don't let a wearer of the fashion hear you say that! I've read some stuff on their LJ communities and they're super strict. The dresses must go to the knees or else it's considered erotic fashion (ero loli) which they don't approve of. The more skin covered, the better.

They really go all out with their fashion in Japan! Some people dress over the top every single day. There's decora fashion--wearing layers and tons of barettes and bows--, kogal fashion, etc. etc.

I appreciate some lolita clothing.
The dresses you posted were ugly, though...

I guess I generally like toned down stuff. Like Liz Lisa... or Milkfed...

i absolutely hate japanese fashion. i think its just a big collection of over the top ugliness. those dresses are for little girls at tea parties. and wearing tons of barettes and ribbons and bows is just too much. i think its horrible, keep it simple.

japanese fashion doesn't have to be the dreadful lolita fashion. japanese streetstyle is actually great, outside of girls who are trying to look like the hello kitty store threw up on them.

my favorite designers are japanese, and they're nowhere down that alley.

yohji yamamoto (http://www.hintmag.com/blog/uploaded_images/yohjiyamamoto04-731749.jpg)
etc

other than that, i'm quite fond of belgian designers. love myself some demuelmeester

you mean anime right?

Ha ha, no way. There aren't any characters in anime that wear lolita. Some think a few do, but if they think so that makes the rest of the community pronounce that person an "ita": someone who makes a disgrace of the fashion. In fact, if a lolita admits she likes anime, most of the other lolitas will make of her a pariah.

holy fuck, she has to be one of the most gorgeous asian girls i have ever seen

what's her name, do you know?

also, i agree with you about korean winter fashion. i've been in south korea during the winter, and some of the clothing is beautiful. i ended up buying a coat similar to the first picture you posted except it was black and purple. i'm in love with it, and though where i live it never gets cold enough to wear it, whenever it is remotely close enough, i plan on rocking it.

I like Italian and French fashion.
i will have to agree with you there, compadre. giambattista valli, lacroix, nina ricci, alberta ferretti, rykiel, gaultier, and so many more - all have a certain kind of romanticism to their clothing that i absolutely adore. not to mention the badass side of french and italian design: givenchy and balmain know the ropes.

as for street fashion: i don't know. it seems like everything is overlapping now. like it's all sort of molded together and each distinct style is strewn about through every country. everywhere is precious.

Lard_thighs100

yeah that maybe true but with that said america still has higher rape and molestion rates than japan
well america just has a higher crime rate in general
=/

Vodka-

America's population is MUCH larger than Japan's so it makes sense that our crime rate would be higher because there's more people to commit crimes.
