LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- After weeks of speculation, Dakota Fanning has officially joined the cast of "New Moon," Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access Hollywood on Saturday.

The 15-year-old actress, currently starring in Summit's "Push," will play the role of Jane, a member of the Italian Volturi vampires in the "Twilight" sequel.

In January, Dakota told Access she was excited about possibly joining the film when reports of her talks with the studio emerged.

"I think it's too soon to tell if I'll for sure be doing it, but it's so great," she said at the time. "Pretty much all my friends are big fans."

And, she added, she's ready for her vampire close-up.

"I don't think they'll have to put a lot of makeup on me," she joked. "I'm pretty white already."

And "Twilight" fans may get to see her alongside star Kristen Stewart in another movie, as well - Variety reported on Wednesday that she is negotiating to join the cast of rock biopic "Runaways" as singer Cheri Currie. Kristen is set to play Joan Jett in the film.

If I remember correctly she was the one that led them to the Volturi Vampires. I don't see how Dakota is going to play the part, because the vampire is older.

Never said I was. I didn't come up with "Twi-tards," I just find it amusing.

And it appears to me that those of us bitching about Twilight are doing just that - bitching about Twilight, NOT bitching about people talking about Twilight.

I have read the books and personally found them horribly written, with the leads being VERY two-dimensional while some secondary characters were given WAY more interesting stories that were never completed.

I can see how they can be enjoyable reads for people. Nothing wrong with some light fluff now and then (seriously if your book is going to be like 750 pages, there should be a reason for that. There is no reason for these books to be as long as they are. It's fluff), but people who think this is the be-all and end-all of literature hurt my English-geek brain.

These aren't even the best teen fiction books out there.

PS Jane is technically like crazy old but that doesn't mean she looks that way. She's a vampire. She's probably not 15, but she doesn't have to look like she's 97.

Jane looks like a kid but is very old on age, ys I've read the books, I don't hate/love them.

But i was really disappointed in the movie..They skipped over a lot of important parts...like the blood typing part thats when Bella and Edward started to REALLY talk

Plus, Jane isn't a sweet, soft spoken 15 year old.
She should be played by a woman in her early 20s and one that has a very strong, demanding speaking voice.

Robert Pattinson doesn't ACTUALLY look like he does in the movie. He's a dirty hobo most of the time. That's what wardrobe and makeup are for.

I have been a fan of Twilight since 2005, when it first came out. I love the book, and I adored it back then because no one in my town knew of it. The book is definitely better than the movie. I have high hopes for New Moon though. the vampires have extremely better make-up and hair. Plus,the director isn't an idiot...actually, I blame the writer more, Melissa Rosenberg. I think us twilight fans should blame her. but Chris Weitz I think will do a good job..I just have that feeling, and Dakota Fanning, I think will do a brilliant job as Jane. She's a brilliant actress for her age.

She was described as being very sexy, I don't remember anything being said about her height. Dakota isn't going to be able to pull it off. If she becomes a vampire at a young age she isn't going to age. She has the little preteen look no one is going to find that sexy. She uses her sex appeal to lure people, how is someone who can't even be sexy use her sex appeal?

i think she matches the description perfectly, she is described as having child like features, which dakota has. When i read the book and she was described; Jane defiantly reminded me of Dakota.
