i've been in catholic school most of my life and when i graduate in may i will FINALLY be free!! im gonna pierce my nose first thing cause i've wanted it for years. I'm dying my hair purple like this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3247/2466791673_31c1a95677.jpg?v=1209984348 and im getting a tattoo from my boyfriend's cousin (whose on house arrest for statuatory rape so i have to wait till i turn 18) anyway what i really want is a vine of japanese orchids across my lower back (tramp stamp i know..) going partially up my left side. what do you think?? I love orchids they're so beautiful and unique and I plan to carry them for my wedding.

Is he a reputable tattoo artist?
Has he done several tattoos before, especially of the type that you like?
Does he have his own gear that he sterilizes properly with an autoclave or that he sends out for cleaning?
If not, you getting a tattoo from him is quite possibly one of the most idiotic things you can do.

As for the tattoo itself, it sounds nice.
You took something cliche and spruced it up a little, put your own twist on it.

he's a FABULOUS artist and only started tattooing around christmas time. he sends justin pictures of all the tattoos he does and most of them are really great. the only one that i wasnt too big on was someone brought in a photograph of eyes and wanted him to do it. it turned out alright but not that great. He is REALLY careful with sterilization i know that for a fact, and yes he has his own gear. im gonna have him draw it up to my liking, i dont want it ridiculously complicated so im positive he can do an awesome job with it.

hahaha i like that! nah i havent seen anything like it... i just always loved orchids and tramp stamps can be hot as long as they're not gay butterflies or tribal crap. i'll look around and see if i can find anything similar. this is the photo i sent him as a reference to the flowers tho http://www.withycombefair.co.uk/images/ff_dainty_orchid_white.jpg

this is kind of what i want as far as it's a vine with flowers (minus the bird) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ePDL4a3Rwhs/SHzTkJJsr1I/AAAAAAAAAEg/8gqUojso3xg/s400/Bird_by_Derek_Dufresneaaa.jpg

but as far as placement goes this is a terrible representation, but i want it to be accross my lower back and up my side like this (except not as big and not as high) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ePDL4a3Rwhs/SHzTkJJsr1I/AAAAAAAAAEg/8gqUojso3xg/s400/Bird_by_Derek_Dufresneaaa.jpg

He has very little experience and just because his tattoos look okay in pictures doesn't mean they look that great in person or when they're healed. If I were you I'd go to someone else. This seems really shady and I wouldn't risk my body like that.

well i'll definately be sure to look into it a little more before he actually does it on me, but i definately want to get it from him even if i just wait a year or two. i know he'll definately take care of me and make sure it's done right and exactly how i want it. i trust mike way more than some random artist, besides the only good ones these days cost a ridiculous amount of money. he'd probably do it for free, cept i would give him at least 100 anyway.

You think a professional won't do a good job?

My buddy makes friends with the artist every time he gets a tat, talks about his life, etc. The art that comes out of a personal relationship is better, but a professionals work isn't going to beat by someone who has only just started.

Well reading the comments, if you have any hunch he won't do the best job, find someone who will. This is your body, and you only get it once.

But the rest sounds cool!!

you should dye it like Shakira did it

where do you think it would look better?

On your upper back going around our shoulders, upper arms, whatever.

That area.

NEVER put anything on your lower back unless it's a total back piece and never put anything near your abdomen if you are a female.

Good tattoos are expensive because they're pieces of art. If you can get him to give you a free tattoo that right there says that he's not reputable at all.

Abdomen you're right on but why lower back? Sure it looks trashy but there's no reason other than that not to get a tattoo there.

I think it's a horrible place to get a tattoo.

The fact that it looks trashy is reason enough to never get one there.

Ew.

And besides, when you get older, that area is one area that tends to stretch and gain fatty tissue (love handles). I've seen a tramp stamp stretch for that reason on more than one person. It looks so nasty.

I'll be getting full sleeves, chest piece, and back piece.

Just wait to get your tattoo from a pro. If you want it now, you should still want it then. And if you don't, thank GOD you didn't get it.

Just dye your hair and pierce for now. That's all temporary and will fulfill your wild side. Don't get a tattoo until you're 100% sure you'll want it on you FOREVER.

so, when you look for a professional to do your tattoo here are some tips:
make sure they make you feel comfortable. not intimidated or looked down upon.
look at their portfolio closely and make sure there are at least some healed pictures. with something as delicate as flowers you're going to want someone who can do solid line work.
get price quotes from different prospective artists. sometimes there are people who overprice, but honestly, it's a work of art and this is their livelihood.

think about it long and hard. if you find a good artist they should be able to draw something up that doesn't look like the typical cherry blossoms on a stick following the curve of your back. but then again if they're really good it should look good no matter what.

i forgot to mention sterilization. make sure that shit is clean. one thing to especially keep in check is cross contamination. they should either wash their hands or change their gloves when they touch anything that may be handled by another person.

i was talkin to mike today about the tattoo and surprisingly (he's realllly arrogant) he said he wasnt so sure he was the right guy.. he told me he would do it on some hood-rat that walked in but theres no way he would want to tattoo me unless he was sure it was gonna look perfect. he said depicting flowers is just as hard as doing a portrait because they're so precise and intricate. the lucky thing is, i didnt want it to look like a photograph, i love his style and i wanted something artistic. So anyway he said he would draw something up for meand if I like it, either he'll do it if he feels comfortable or I can take it too another tattoo artist and he'll hook me up.

sound good?

the fact that he's doubting himself seems a little fishy to me.
also, speaking as someone who was in catholic school for a long long time, i understand the desire to break out and 'rebel' after graduation. but, while dying your hair and getting a piercing aren't permanent, a tattoo is (so to speak). so, i'd just be 100% sure you want it before you actually go for it. and, if you go for it, make sure the artist is confident in his abilities.

nah it's not really, he's very new at this and has only done a handful of tattoos. flowers are pretty intricate and im just glad that he's able to admit when it's gonna be a little bit too hard.
